About 10 years ago I decided I wanted to make candles for my family, friends and for myself. I purchased books, and diligently read whatever I could find online about candle making.

I found the process long, and honestly quite dangerous – have you been burned by hot wax before? Needless to say that initial foray into candle making scared me and I decided to back off until the process was streamlined and not as complicated.

Recently Labor of Love Co reached out to me to review one of their DIY Soy Candle Boxes and since I enjoy making candles I accepted. I was also eager to see if the candle making process could be simplified and made with only the ingredients sent in a box.

I could be one of the luckiest people in the world – I live right in the middle of a surf town – Encinitas, California.

If you have never heard of our town let me share a couple of facts with you – the main artery is the Coast Highway 101. Taking this iconic and scenic route is a favorite of Jason and I’s, and also a wonderful place to truly take in the wonder and true “vibe” of this surf town. With a population of almost 60,000 people, almost someone you encounter knows a mermaid or two.

Everyone here is friendly and there is no judgement for cutting out of the office at 3PM to hit the waves. This is a town that embraces beachy waves – in the sand or on a head of hair.

Taking all this into account it is no wonder that Sun Bum chose Encinitas as the location for its West Coast offices and Concept Store. Being that it was a mere couple miles down the 101, I decided it was time to support this newest addition to our town.

One of my favorite scents in the entire world is lemons. There is no scent like lemon and it instantly evoke images of bright yellow color and a citrus filled fresh scent.

As I have gotten older, I have found that it is far more satisfying to give a gift than receive one. The other issue that becomes apparent when you get older is that gift purchasing becomes much more difficult than it was before.

The main issue I have found is that it is hard to buy gifts for people when most people simply go out and buy what they want, instead of hoping that they might get it from a gift giving celebration. To combat this issue I lean towards the handmade end, or gift cards for gifts.

I am on a constant search to find, not only the perfect gift, but the perfect presentation. I have a confession – I am a paper towel user. There is a convenience and an ease that comes with their use that makes them quick and disposable.

Jason recently brought to my attention this when he noticed that our grocery bill each week consisted of paper towels. My knee-jerk reaction to this news at first was defensive. I became instantly defensive of my consumption of paper goods, and immediately began to justify it.
