Newmans Own Organic Cat Food Review

Newman’s Own Organic: Wet and Dry Cat Food Review and Giveaway

maggee-contiplating-her-newmans-own-choicesSince I have adopted cats I have learned a lot about the feline species. One of the biggest things I have learned is about their taste buds.

Often we make strawberries with fresh whipped cream on the top and every time I make whipped cream my girl Maggee wakes up out of her slumber and stands at full attention. Each time she does this I immediately give her some cream. She is usually done after a couple licks, and back to sleep she goes. Until recently I was under the belief she loved my whipped cream, and as it turns out cats can not taste sugar and sweet, it must have been the plain cream she loves. My other cat, Murfee has no interest in this creamy treat and tuns his nose up on such indulgences.

To say the least we have two different eaters in our house, which makes finding a cat food that both animals like can be a challenge at times. I have taken it on as a challenge of sorts – can I find a list of foods that both cats will love. Recently i reviewed Newman’s Own Organic food and loved it, and when I found out they had a line of pet food under the label Newman’s Own Pet Food knew I had to let the two cats try it.

5 Things to include in your Cat Emergency Kit

5 Things to Include In Your Cat Emergency Kit

Pet Emergency Kit ViewCalifornia is currently going through a heat wave and suffering from an increase in fires. Since the threat of fire is something that many people face as a reality it got me to thinking about my own emergency plan. While Jason and I are prepared, we also want the cats to be prepared.

It has been a goal of mine for quite some time to prepare a emergency kit for the cats and I decided to take this increase in fires as the motivation I needed.

While many people know the typical things to include in a emergency kit, I began thinking of the items that most people do not consider adding.

To follow is my list of 5 items that everyone should include in their emergency kit.

Catzebox Review

Catzebox 1.0 Review and Giveaway

CatzeboxI am a cat lover and especially a lover of my own cats – Maggee and Murfee. I have mentioned it in the past, but Jason and I adopted them from our local Humane Society. We count this decision as one of the top ones we have made as a couple.

We often talk about what attracted us to each of the cats. Murfee was only a day old when he was found in the middle of an empty field alone (I have said it in the past, and will say again, it is a miracle he survived). The day that we happened to meet him at the shelter, was the day after he was neutered and he was lethargic and tiny! Despite being in pain (they had to give him pain medication – poor thing!), he still wanted to play with us through the cage. I loved this about him, and I knew that he was our cat.

Maggee on the flip side had been taken care of by many people, unable to find a forever home. Our little girl likes to play, and when she opens her mouth, many would think bite – she plays – they cited aggression issues. Jason and I were undeterred and we asked to take her in to the room so that we could get to know her – she jumped into each of our laps, and that was that – she was ours.

Despite the difference in their upbringing, they common thread between them is they are playful kitties – even at almost 4 years old and 3.5 years old. It is easy to get Maggee excited and while Murfee takes a bit to get excited, when he does watch out for claws. Since they are so playful, we are always looking for ways to burn their immense amount of energy, so when I saw the Catzebox, I knew they would love it!

Pet Gift Box: Cat Subscription Box – January 2016 Review

Pet Gift Box – Cat – Subscription Box – January 2016 Review

January 2016 Tail-gate party

There is no denying that we are a football home. From our San Diego Charger themed decorations to what team we root for. I never imagined that I would care much about football much less about what the result of the Super Bowl turns out to be. The big news for San Diego fans is that despite much concern, many comments and discussions to the contrary, the Chargers will be in San Diego for the 2016 season. This came as a collective exhale from the cities residents, and while 2016 is figured out, the future is still up in air for the Chargers.

Since I was in San Diego, the NFL Owners was shown and updated – this put me on edge until the end. The unintended result was that the stress i was feeling was passed on to the cats. I did not realize the undo stress they were also feeling while i was on edge. It got me thinking that despite my excitement, at times the yelling “touchdown” and the screaming about an interception can cause animals undo stress due to not knowing if the yelling is at them or the box in front of them.

Despite the momentary fear that I might put in the cats, I am still a yelling proud San Diego Fan. In this months PetGiftBox they celebrate that pigskin tradition that is celebrated over 16 Sunday’s a year.

KitNipBox Subscription Box- Monthly Box Review

KitNipBox Monthly Subscription Box Review

Monthly Box Contents - Kit Nip BoxOur cats are rescues – Murfee was discovered in an open field at 2 days old with only 2 other siblings and no mother to be found. Our Maggee is a different story – she was shuttled around from home to home for a couple of weeks due to alleged aggression issues. The only aggression that we have seen is when we get home and she is beyond eager to have us hold her. Our Maggee then had kittens, in a foster home, but as soon as she could she was separated from them and brought back to the shelter. This is where we entered her life – she jumped in our lap in the room and I was sold – she was mine!

Both of our cats had a rough start to life and despite this, they have the sweetest and most calm demeanor. When we have guests come over, instead of hiding, our cats want to be with the humans in the middle of the action. This gives our guests opportunities to play with toys and give them treats – and we know they love the added attention.

Our cats live their life inside, and for us this is right decision and the best way we can keep them safe. Due to the fact that we keep them in the house, we try to provide them as much stimulation as possible. We recently received a KitNipBox for review that provided a nice overview of the types of items one could receive from this monthly subscription box.

It’s THE Scoop By K-Kat Innovations Holiday Giveaway

It’s THE Scoop By K-Kat Innovations: 2015 Holiday Giveaway!!!

Promo Its the scoopI have mentioned in the past that of all the duties of cat guardianship there are, cleaning the litter box is my least favorite. I have found that there are advantages, albeit unconventional. The biggest advantage is that by the daily cleaning of the litter box you can make sure that your cat is using the provided facilitates in the proper intervals and proportions. The lessor, but equally important advantage is that the feline is indebted to you and gives you extra snuggles in appreciation of your sacrifice. Alright, maybe the reality is that they do not know who cleans their box, but it still has to get done.

Back in September, I had the opportunity to review a scoop that had it’s beginnings on Kickstarter. The it’s THE scoop by K-Kat Innovations is not the previous generation’s pooper-scooper. The it’s THE scoop is able to get the smaller particles that many other scoops leave behind, and does not create any litter dust, which is good for humans and felines. This scoop has made cleaning the litter box less of a chore and more of a challenge and adventure. I am enjoying seeing that no matter what the cats leave behind this scoop can handle it. I still think that this is MUST HAVE for all feline guardians!

Cat Lady Box Monthly Subscription Review: October 2015

Cat Lady Box Monthly Subscription Review and Giveaway – October 2015

Cat Lady Box contents October 2015-1There is a trend happening around the world that I would like to mention to all of my fellow animals lovers – the dressing up of animals. The outfitting of attire for animals is not a new trend, but one that has been around as long as animals have been domesticated.

As humans we tend to put our emotions into the animals, thinking that our desires are their desires when in fact this is not the case. There is no better way to express this than in the dressing of our feline friends. I am not sure when this began, but i think it is more our desire for laughter and “awws” than for the cats themselves. I would imagine that the dressed animal is uncomfortable and a bit confused. That being said, I dream up outfits and costumes for the Muggles and plans have been made.

Since Halloween just passed I saw many dressed up animal photos on my social media feeds and I have to say, confusion aside, many were very inventive and cute outfits. In support of cat ladies I was very excited to see this months Cat Lady Box  (*spoiler alert* – It contains cat ears)It makes me happy to say that this is the fifth month and the first “special editions” box. Each month it is just as good as the previous month, (see previous reviews here). Despite the previous months printed boxes, this one was the stamper version. I have to admit that I like the printed name and log on the box as opposed to the irregularity of the stamped boxes. Despite this minimal complaint the box contents were nothing short of creative and diverse.

Kitty Shack Review

Kitty Shack Review

Kitty Shack BoxAnyone who is a regular reader of our review will know that we love our cats, Maggee and Murfee. Our house is very cat friendly with high up places to sleep, down low places to sleep, toys in many corners and many things dangle for them to bat at.

I am always looking for a soft thing to put on the floor to add to their comfort. I have tried cat beds that you get at the local pet stores, and they become toy holders. I have tried a homemade thick quilted bed, as well as a fleece dog bed with no interest from them whatsoever. So when I received the Kitty Shack I was not very hopeful.

Pet Gift Box – Cat – Subscription Box – October Review

Pet Gift Box – Cat – Subscription Box – October 2015 Review

Pet Gift Box Cat BoxThe first thing that I think of each Halloween is black cats, but not in the way you may initially think. Black cats are synonymous with witches, bad luck and general creepiness. The reason that I think of them is that many people adopt these black cats as a Halloween novelty and do not consider that they are living creatures.

Many shelters, including my local shelter where I got the Muggles, puts a hold on black cat adoptions through the end of Halloween weekend. I personally agree with this policy and would like to see it “adopted” in all shelters, stores and rescue organizations.

The black cat issue aside I do not think that animals really like to wear costumes, Halloween or any other day despite what their guardians may think. Despite this I put hats, glasses and any other item I can locate onto our cats. In this months Pet Gift Box I am happy to say that I got an addition to my ever-expanding cat costume collection.

Pet Gift Box – Cat – Subscription Box – September Review

September Pet Gift Box with PostcardI usually do not associate cats and bad hair days, I mean for the most part their care regiment is short, simple and easy. I have noted this behavior and while it does involved a substantially wet tongue it does not require much else. Most days I am witness to this simple yet highly effective method of grooming, and I have to say that cats have it far easier than humans.

When humans undertake this ritual of everyday life, it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours depending on the complexity of style. There is where our feline companions also fare better – they do not have a style to keep up or maintain.

Given the considerable amount of money and time that is spent on this task it seems “hair raisingly” appropriate that this months Pet Gift Box theme is “Hair Club for Cats”. The treats included in this months box had a hair and grooming theme including the following:
