Geek Fuel Monthly Subscription – October 2015 Review

October Geek Fuel BoxBack in 1985 I was a mere 10 years old, but I knew who Michael J. Fox was and knew that he had a movie coming out – Back to the Future. I saw this movie about a year after release (remember back then movies took a while to come out on VHS). I feel instantly in love with this and the excitement I felt when I saw there would be a 2nd, was something I had never experienced before.

I remember seeing Back To The Future 2 in the theater. I remember wondering if 2015 would really be what they imagined it to be (remember that it was 30 years in the future). I doubted we would have flying cars, but could see a dynamic newspaper that changed headlines as the event was unfolding. I also knew that they would have retro restaurants that were throw backs to the 1980’s.

Needless to say I am excited that the date Marty and Doc traveled to is approaching and this was included in this months Geek Fuel Monthly Subscription Box. If you are looking for a wide range of geek items, the monthly subscription box from Geek Fuel. When I received the October 2015 themed box and as I usually have been in previous months, I was eager to see what it contained. It had been announced that there would be an Officially Licensed product in the October box. Included in this months box was the following:

Peaches & Petals Subscription Box – October Review and Giveaway

Peaches and Petals October box contentsOne bonus to monthly boxes is that you really never know what you are going to get until you open the box. I like the element of surprise and I love that it is always a new adventure into trying new items. The best boxes are ones that keep the surprise each month and keep you guessing with little guidance.

One of the newer player’s in the subscription box arena is Peaches and Petals. This is a subscription box that caters to ‘fun. flirty, fashionable vintage and modern lifestyles’. What does that mean to you the subscriber? It means that each month you will receive 3-5 items hand selected by the Peaches and Petals team and can range in items from creams, nail polish, makeup, scarves and bags  or/and a vintage piece of jewelry. There could be other items included, depending on the box and theme for the month.

Pet Gift Box – Cat – Subscription Box – October Review

Pet Gift Box – Cat – Subscription Box – October 2015 Review

Pet Gift Box Cat BoxThe first thing that I think of each Halloween is black cats, but not in the way you may initially think. Black cats are synonymous with witches, bad luck and general creepiness. The reason that I think of them is that many people adopt these black cats as a Halloween novelty and do not consider that they are living creatures.

Many shelters, including my local shelter where I got the Muggles, puts a hold on black cat adoptions through the end of Halloween weekend. I personally agree with this policy and would like to see it “adopted” in all shelters, stores and rescue organizations.

The black cat issue aside I do not think that animals really like to wear costumes, Halloween or any other day despite what their guardians may think. Despite this I put hats, glasses and any other item I can locate onto our cats. In this months Pet Gift Box I am happy to say that I got an addition to my ever-expanding cat costume collection.

Pet Treater Subscription Box Review

Pet Treater Monthly Subscription Review and Giveaway – October 2015 Box

Pet Treater with bedThe name “best friend” is bantered around a lot in today’s world – everybody has a BFF (Best Friend Forever). I think that to be a true best friend one must be patient towards their friend, there must be a mutual respect and above all else you should enjoy spending time together.

I can think of no other best friend you can have then your family pet. I hesitate to use the term family pet because I think that they are closer to being a best friend. In my opinion animals and especially dogs fit the bill of what is described as a best friend.

I have some “pawsome” news for everyone who feels like I do and considers their dog their best friend – a new dog themed box called Pet Treater.

Pet Treater LogoWhat is Pet Treater? Pet Treater is a monthly subscription service that has your dog in mind. Basically each month they treat your best friend with quality times that you and your dog will love. The boxes generally include a treat and interactive toy as well as either a gadget to make you life eater or some other surprise! The most exciting part is that each box is different depending on the breed and size of your dog – and while there is a different you can expect to receive a box comparable to the one I am showing you here.

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review – October 2015 Box

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review  – October 2015 Box

October 2015 Buddhi BoxWhen I was a young girl I was not 100% on how puberty worked and as all my friends were growing out and maturing in the chest region, I stay relatively flat chested. I had many jokes headed my way and wondered if I would ever be like my breast lucky friends. As luck would have it, in my early 20’s my metabolism balanced out and I began to gain weight … in my breasts! I apparently gain weight in the chest first, then the rear and then the fat goes where ever it wants.

Jason and I are similar to many other households in that we have been personally affected by breast cancer and breast issues. During all those days of wishing it never occurred to me that breasts come with their own set of issues. I have had a couple family members fight the various stages of cancer and I have been affected by benign lumps that have their own name of Fibrocystic Breast Disease. The lumps I have generally do not turn to cancer, but each lump gets me worried because breast cancer runs heavily in my family.

October is an important month for our household so when I received the October 2015 BuddhiBox my heart was filled with joy. Earlier in the year, I had the opportunity to review previous boxes (click here) and they are always thoughtful and thought-provoking. The message is always one of compassion, and understanding and living a pure life.

I surprised when I opened the box and instead of the typical bright green tissue paper again I was greeted with a bright pink paper and found myself even more eager than usual to tear the paper and delve into the box. This month came with 3 cardboard information cards that are in full color and on thick glossy card stock. The first card was the Yoga pose of “Heart Chakra Pose” that shows the pose in full color, as well as the benefits about the pose with a pick border. These pose cards are made especially for BuddhiBox.  There is a recipe for a “Benihana’s Fried Rice with Tofu” that is made using 12 ingredients that is basically a vegetarian fried rice that uses Sriracha to add taste. The final information card included was a box content listing and on the other side the following quote:

When you seek love with all you heart, you shall find its echoes in the Universe  – Rumi

Treats Monthly Subscription Box – Japan

Treats Box Subscription Review and Giveaway – Japan Box

Treats Montly Box - JapanThe one thing that having a review blog does is force the reviewer outside of their comfort zone, and experience something they may not have had they not completed the review. At least that is the case for me, each day my comfort limits are tested to some degree.

Something that I want to do in my lifetime that pushes those comfort zone limits is travel to Japan. I am asked frequently why Japan of all places, and the answer is really a simple one – to see and taste new things. There is something about Japanese culture that is much more adventurous than the United States. I am not in a position to travel the 5,600 miles away (but this could change next year – I will keep you posted), but I can still experience the food of Japan in the form of Treats Monthly Subscription Box.

The Treats Monthly Subscription Box is a monthly subscription service specializing in international snack boxes. Each month you will receive a different country and the items will range from candy, crackers, chips, cookies, chocolate and more! I received the Japan box for review and it was full of treats including:

Pet Gift Box – Cat – Subscription Box – September Review

September Pet Gift Box with PostcardI usually do not associate cats and bad hair days, I mean for the most part their care regiment is short, simple and easy. I have noted this behavior and while it does involved a substantially wet tongue it does not require much else. Most days I am witness to this simple yet highly effective method of grooming, and I have to say that cats have it far easier than humans.

When humans undertake this ritual of everyday life, it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours depending on the complexity of style. There is where our feline companions also fare better – they do not have a style to keep up or maintain.

Given the considerable amount of money and time that is spent on this task it seems “hair raisingly” appropriate that this months Pet Gift Box theme is “Hair Club for Cats”. The treats included in this months box had a hair and grooming theme including the following:

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review – September Box

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review  – September 2015 Box

Buddhi Box September Box ContentsI spend my day in a peaceful home. I typically wake up around 8:00am and make lunch for my husband, and see him off to a great day at work. I then go through the process of waking myself up – which usually includes an energy drink and cuddles with the cats. I then grab my computer and read and respond to emails and begin to write. During this time the only sound is my cats living life, outdoor noises (there is construction a couple of homes away) and the sound of thoughts swirling in my head.

I love this peacefulness and I look forward to it each day. This amount of peacefulness is not only conductive to writing but also for thinking and reflection. In the practice of Yoga, your silence and movement is reflective of your thoughts. With the amount of peace I have in a average day I am able to hone in on that peace, corral my thoughts.

Earlier in the year, I had the opportunity to review previous boxes (click here) and they are always enjoyable and grounded. The message is always one of compassion, and peacefulness and of course always yoga.

When the bright green tissue paper again greeted me I found myself eager again to tear the paper and delve into this months box. This month came with 3 cardboard information cards that are clear and in full color. The first card was the “Downward Facing Dog” that shows the pose in full color, as well as the benefits about the pose. There is a recipe for a “Penne all Norma” that is made using 11 ingredients, including the spice packet and is basically pasta with tomato sauce with eggplant. The final information card included was a box content listing and on the other side the following quote:

It’s the possibility of having a dream, come true that makes life interesting.  – Paul Coelho

Cat Lady Box Monthly Subscription Review and Giveaway – August 2015

August 2015 Cat Lady BoxI have said in a previous review that just because I have copious amounts of photos on my phone I am not a crazy cat lady – I retract the part of that statement that states the word crazy. I hereby admit I might be a cat lady but not a crazy one.

Let’s take a closer look at the facts in front of me. I love anything feline themed extending to the items I collect and what I decorate my environment with, but this does not make me crazy. While it might be a fact that I have more pictures of Maggee and Murfee then I do of family, friends, nature and review product photos combined, this does not make me crazy. If I can work my cats into casual conversations (or reviews) I will, but this does not make me crazy. What truly makes me crazy is the term “Crazy Cat Lady” – we are simply “Cat Ladies”. It is my belief that just because we love our cats that does not mean that we are crazy, obsessed maybe, but not crazy.

In support of cat ladies everywhere crazy or no, I am happy to say that this is the third month of Cat Lady Box and it is just as good as the previous month I reviewed, (see that review here). The first thing that I noticed was that in the previous months the logo had been hand stamped on the box, therefore making the image darker in some spots and lighter in others, and this month they are printed on the box. The result is a logo that pops, is sharp and attention-getting.

My Paper Pumpkin by Stampin Up Review

My Paper Pumpkin September 2015 Kit Review and Giveaway

My Paper Pumpkin September 2015If we like it or not, time is marching on and the fall holidays are approaching. The kick off to the fall holiday season for many people is Halloween. I love this time of year, and I used to dress up accordingly. I learned last night that many of us kids of the 1980’s had a “go-to” costume. The one that I choose each year to fall back to was a “witch” and as it turns out Jason;s was a “vampire”. There is something about knowing what your costume is and the preparation needed.

In the spirit of witched and vampires of days past began thinking. Recently we have had a turn over of neighbors and this is the first holiday season, I was thinking of candied apples and was wondering how I would package these and when I received this months My Paper Pumpkin Kit I knew I had found my solution.

I had the chance to review My Paper Pumpkin’s kit box’s previous months box (click here). I was thrilled to be given the chance to review this months box as well. The theme for September was called “Wickedly Sweet Treat”.
