Sock Club – September 2015 – Review & Giveaway

Sock Club SeptemberI am a sock fan and it could be said that I have a hoard level collection of socks. Jason made a comment today on my ever-growing sock collection and his surprise that I was unable to locate a pair to wear. I finally settled on a bulky pair that is to heavy for this time of year in California. I recently received a pair of socks from SockClub.com and was thrilled to see that they might be the pair I was searching for.

SockClub.com has been around over a year now and each month they send a sock and a note explaining what the inspiration behind choosing that sock was. These are an American made product – the socks are designed in Austin, Texas and manufactured in North Carolina. The company’s began when 2 friends made a bet over a corn hole match and they then began to think about what they could do with a small fortune (after all a bet had been made) and decided the answer was socks – thus Sock Club was conceived.

Peaches & Petals Subscription Box – September Review and Giveaway

Peaches and Petals All ContentsI will admit that I love subscription boxes. There is something special about getting a package each month with your name on it. The boxes contents are unknown until the box is unfurled and each content reveals itself.

I am excited to tell you that there is a new player in the subscription box arena – Peaches and Petals. This is a subscription box that caters to ‘fun. flirty, fashionable vintage and modern lifestyles’. What does that mean exactly? It means that each month you will receive 3-5 items hand selected by the Peaches and Petals curators that could include sunglasses, scarves, umbrellas, nail polish or/and a vintage piece of jewelry to name a few.

Moon Magic Subscription Box – August 2015 Review and Giveaway

Moon Magic Box ContentsI will be honest and admit I know almost nothing about Chakras and stones. If I am being completely honest I will also tell you that I am not 100% sure that stones work – but I am open-minded enough to learn.

The first thing I wanted to know was what are the chakras, what area of the body it uses and it;s effect. A Chakra is an energy point or mode in the subtle body (which is your mind, intelligence and ego) not the physical body. There are 7 Chakra points and each has its own objective. The 1st Chakra is the Root Chakra which is at the base of the spine (tailbone area specifically) and it represents our foundation and the feeling of being grounded. The 2nd is the Sacral Chakra is located in the lower abdomen (about 2 inches below the navel) and represents connection and ability to accept others and new experiences. The 3rd is the Solar Plexus located in the upper abdomen in the stomach and represents the ability to be confident and in control of our own lives. The 4th is the Heart Chakra located in the center of the chest above the heart and represents our ability to love. The 5th Chakra is the Throat located in the throat and represents ones ability to communicate. The 6th Chakra is the 3rd eye which is located in the forehead between the eyes and represents the ability to not only see but also focus on the big picture. The 7th and final Chakra is the Crown located on the top of the head and is the highest chakra and represents ones ability to be fully connected spiritually.

Geek Fuel Monthly Subscription – August Review

GeekFuel August 2015

I have spoken before about my conversion over to the dark side, which in my world means gaming. The first experience I had with a game was Assassins Creed 3 – I loved the idea that I could walk around and interact with my environment in a new way in which I never had before in games. The next game that captured my attention was Fallout 3 – Jason was playing it and I found myself spending more time watching him play then I was anything else.

Since Jason saw where I was headed in my world of gaming, he had purchased Fallout: New Vegas, in the eventuality of my gaming evolution (as he referred to it at the time). I began to play Fallout: New Vegas and discovered I really loved the game. From the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System, to the PIP Boy, Mr. House, the exploring and the story and many paths it could take. Undoubtedly, this game fed my love of open world games and showed me what a game could be.

Needless to say I am more than excited that Fallout 4 is coming in a couple of short months and that this fact was mentioned in this months Geek Fuel monthly subscription box. There are few things that pack as much geek themed punch as the monthly subscription box from Geek Fuel. When I received the August themed box and as I have been in previous months, I was eager to see what it contained. It had been announced that there would be either a Wolverine or Spiderman Officially Licensed product in the August box. Included in this months box was the following:

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review – August Box

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review  – August 2015 Box

BuddhiBox August 2015

The sticker as you open each monthly BuddhiBox reads “Discovery. Union. Compassion.”. The reason I bring this up is that I think that with not only yoga but in life you need these 3 components. Discovery is important because you always want to be discovering your world as well as yourself. Union is needed to help unite us in a somewhat fractured world we are living in. Lines are blurred and what generations before us were taught does not necessarily apply to today’s world. Compassion is probably the single thing that can possibly unite us all, because with compassion we can discover.

Earlier in the year, I had the opportunity to review previous boxes (click here) and they are always enjoyable and grounded. The message is always one of compassion, and peacefulness and of course always yoga.

When the bright green tissue paper again greeted me I found myself eager again to tear paper and delve into this months box. This month came with 4 cardboard information cards, one acting as a manifest of the contents. The first card was the “Lotus Pose” that shows the pose in full color, as well as the benefits and possible cautions about the pose. There was a recipe for a “Iced Coconut Marley Coffee” that is made using 5 ingredients, including the enclosed coffee (coconut milk, coconut cream, vanilla extract and toasted coconut). Also, included was a card for 3 mediation downloads from the Chopra Center. The final information card included was a box content listing and the following quote:

Though her home is on the surface, She is still Universe.  – Jason Mraz

Homegrown Collective August Box Review

Homegrown Collective August Box Review and Giveaway!!Homegrown Collective August 2015

I remember my first foray into crafts – it went something like “here is $50.00 and go get a hobby”. These fateful words were said by my father during one of my many groundings as a teen. I was being particularly annoying, hoping that would release me from my punishment, and I think I was pushing all my worn out fathers buttons. I was only 16 and honestly overwhelmed by the different sections at the craft store and all the unknowns that lie ahead of me. I decided on materials to redo my childhood dresser.

Even then I was a fan of a good DIY project and love the opportunity undertake something new. I was given an opportunity this month to review the Homegrown Collective box. The theme for August was “Let Us Make Soap” – all the materials needed to make your own soap. Soap making has always been something that I have wanted to try (Jason was surprised this was a first time thing for me), but have been apprehensive due to the lye and the caustic nature of the ingredients.

Homegrown Collective took this common soap making fear into account when they curated this box. The recipes include were charcoal soap, cacao chocolate soap and rosemary peppermint soap. The included soap was a simple base of three soaps that only needed microwave melting, still allowing the addition of my choice of ingredients. The three soaps included were goats milk soap, a simple clear soap and a simple white soap. Each of these 3 melted easy in the microwave (in about 40 seconds) and hardened just as simply, making adding ingredients easy.

Pet Gift Box – Cat – Subscription Box – August Review

Pet Gift Box August 2015The 1970’s were known for many things including and not limited to the invention of the walk-man (1978), 1st email was sent (1971), E-Commerce was invented by Michael Aldrich (1979) and the rise of disco (1970-1979). Disco took over, the music was infectious as was the lifestyle that accompanied it.

The disco craze was not limited to the music that was played but also the clothes worn, the plans for the weekend and your dance ability. There is no movie from the 1970’s that personifies the 70’s as “Saturday Night Fever“. This movie from 1977 tells the story of a man who spends his weekends at the local discotheque. This movie features the songs of the Bee Gee’s and made Stayin’ Alive what it is today. Given the cultural impact that this movie has had on society it seems appropriate that this months Pet Gift Box theme is “Caturday Night Fever”. The treats included in this months box had a disco and 1970;s theme and included the following:

My Paper Pumpkin August 2015 Kit Review and Giveaway

My Paper Pumpkin August 2015

This past holiday season we were at our cousins house, as he has recently taken over as official Christmas Eve host. While we were getting drinks I looked up and discovered the cutest tins with chalk writing announcing its contents. I mentioned that I loved the kitchen decorations and the hostess mentioned she was loving the chalk look and she wanted to expand upon it. When I received the August My Paper Pumpkin kit I was immediately brought back to that conversation.

I had the chance to review My Paper Pumpkin’s kit box’s previous months box (click here). I was thrilled to be given the chance to review this months box as well. The theme for August was called “Chalk It Up To Love”.

Mystical Mojo Box Review – August 2015

Mystical Mojo Subscription Box Review and Giveaway

Mystical Mojo Subscription BoxWhenever I hear the word mojo I am brought back to Austin Powers and when he lost his mojo. In the movie it is described as ones life forced, your essence and the right stuff. Mojo is defined in the dictionary as “the art of proactive of casting magic spells, magic and voodoo”.  I like to think of mojo as somewhere in the middle – it is not quite magic, but when you get your own mojo going it can make all the difference in the world to your outlook.

The Mystical Mojo box chooses 3-8 items each month that work together to create a theme. The themes are anything from “Gratitude” to this months theme of “Grounding”. What the theme means is according to the enclosed box “when we are grounded we have a more conscious experience of everyday life, with a higher or more all-rounded awareness”.

I did not know what to expect when I received this 8×8 box in my mailbox, and I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. The first thing I noticed was the postcard manifest that announced this months theme as well as listing the contents of the box. In this months box were various stones, incense, incense burner plate, a cloth and a Crystal Grid pattern for the Grounding ritual. Included in this months box were the following:

Stones from Mystical Mojo Box Continue reading
