Peaches & Petals Subscription Box – January 2016 Review

Peaches & Petals Subscription Box – January 2016 Review and Giveaway

Peaches and Petals January 2016 BoxThere are things that I want to purchase but for whatever reason I put the purchase off – this is not intentional, but the way life works out at times. I love to get mail, it is one of the reasons I became a review blogger, the more mail the better. One of my favorite pieces of mail to get is monthly subscription boxes. I love the element of surprise and getting a peek into the creativity of others. I love to see what is included and love to wonder what makes an item worthy of inclusion.

Peaches and Petals is taking this concept of a wonder and surprise and bringing it to each monthly box. This is a subscription box that caters to ‘fun. flirty, fashionable vintage and modern lifestyles’. What this means to you as the subscriber? Each month you will receive 3-5 items hand selected by the Peaches and Petals team and that can range from books, household items, nail polish, makeup, scarves or/and a vintage piece of jewelry. Other items can be included, depending on the box and theme for the month.

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review – December 2015 Box

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review  – December 2015 Box

Buddhi Box December 2015 BoxWhen we are children we do not think that the words that people say to use can hurt us. The sad part is that words many times words can hurt more than the largest weapon. Each night we watch the news, and each night we marvel at the amount of crimes and stories that could have a different outcome had words been used instead of the alternative weapons.

I was a young girl when I learned that words can hurt and to choose my words wisely. I apply this to each aspect of my life, and I am blessed that my husband does the same. We were both bullied in school and now how kind words can make a world of change and mean words can ruin your day. That is one reason I look forward to my monthly BuddhiBox – these are messages that are important in the yoga and real world.

I recently received the December BuddhiBox and I am again pleased and thrilled. Earlier in the year, I had the opportunity to review previous boxes (click here) and they are always a fun adventure in the yoga/healthy living lifestyle. The message is always one of compassion, and understanding and living a pure life.

This month we are back to the familiar bright green tissue paper carefully covering this months treasures. This month came with 4 cardboard information cards that are in full color and on thick glossy card stock. The first card was the Yoga pose of “Garland Pose” that shows the pose in full color, as well as the benefits and directions about the pose. These pose cards are made especially for BuddhiBox by a company called Yogicards. There is a recipe for a “Broccoli Hemp Potato Salad” that is made using 15 ingredients – 6 being spices that when put together creates a fresh, healthy and flavorful salad. The final information card included was a box manifest and on the other side the following quote:

The heart that gives, gathers.  – Lao Tzu Continue reading

Geek Fuel Monthly Subscription – December 2015 Review

Geek Fuel Monthly Subscription – December 2015 Review

December box contents Geek FuelI remember a time when cartoons were nothing more than a Saturday morning ritual. I remember those days before I knew what television seasons were, ratings and what a true solid story line was. There was a simplicity to what we watched, and the characters we loved.

Flash forward 30 years and the cartoon landscape is much different then it was when I was a child and when I stop, and consider, I think it is an over all positive thing. With the advance of cartoons being made into live action movies, this opens a child’s imagination in ways our minds could only dream of. My favorite live action adaptation of recent years has to be The Transformers trilogy – what stated as, what I considered, a boy cartoon has become something I love.

I am a nostalgic person and I often I wish I could travel back and experience the simplicity of the cartoon watching era and I am happy to say that this month Geek Fuel Monthly Subscription Box celebrates those cartoon days. I was eager to open this months box and as with previous months I was eager to see what the box contained and I was not disappointed.

KitNipBox Subscription Box- Monthly Box Review

KitNipBox Monthly Subscription Box Review

Monthly Box Contents - Kit Nip BoxOur cats are rescues – Murfee was discovered in an open field at 2 days old with only 2 other siblings and no mother to be found. Our Maggee is a different story – she was shuttled around from home to home for a couple of weeks due to alleged aggression issues. The only aggression that we have seen is when we get home and she is beyond eager to have us hold her. Our Maggee then had kittens, in a foster home, but as soon as she could she was separated from them and brought back to the shelter. This is where we entered her life – she jumped in our lap in the room and I was sold – she was mine!

Both of our cats had a rough start to life and despite this, they have the sweetest and most calm demeanor. When we have guests come over, instead of hiding, our cats want to be with the humans in the middle of the action. This gives our guests opportunities to play with toys and give them treats – and we know they love the added attention.

Our cats live their life inside, and for us this is right decision and the best way we can keep them safe. Due to the fact that we keep them in the house, we try to provide them as much stimulation as possible. We recently received a KitNipBox for review that provided a nice overview of the types of items one could receive from this monthly subscription box.

My Paper Pumpkin December 2015 Review

My Paper Pumpkin December 2015 Kit Review and Giveaway

One Great Year KitI have a “New Years” confession for you – despite my best intentions I always want to make a calendar for our house but I rarely finish in time.

Let’s roll back the clock one year ago and my wide-eyed optimism. I gathered all the materials I needed in order to create a calendar that would be used the next 12 month of our lives. In theory it would be packed with dates, moments and more memories than the days can handle. I plugged away and after about 6 hours I had a perfect acceptable homemade calendar that would fit perfect in the space I had in mind. I was proud and could not wait until I could use it and fill the days.

The reality of the matter is that despite my efforts there were a couple of months were the previous month lingered longer than it should have and a lot of space that stayed blank. I decided that for the new year coming I would still make a calendar but I would scale down my expectations.

As we begin this march into the new year this months My Paper Pumpkin kit arrived at the perfect time. As if again Stampin Up knew the projects in my mind the box for December was called “One Great Year” and provided the perfect calendar for the coming year.

Cat Lady Box Monthly Subscription Review: November 2015

Cat Lady Box Monthly Subscription Review and Giveaway – November 2015

Cat Lady Box November 2015November is a month of reflection and giving thanks for the positive (and negative) things in your life. There are 3 things in my life that I am particularly thankful for – the first two are my husband Jason and my father. The third thing that I am thankful for is Maggee and Murfee – my two cats.

There are many reasons that I am thankful for my cats but mostly because when I am having a particularly hard day they seem to be aware. There are times that I am stressed or under a deadline and they give me a look or a head bump as if to tell me “I’m here for you my human”. It is nothing short of amazing and something to be thankful for, not only in November, but year round.

Cat Lady Box Before and AfterThis celebration of thanks and is a monthly occurrence with Cat Lady Box. I am very pleased to say that this is the sixth month and it is “absolutely meowvalous”. Each month it is just as good as the previous month, (see previous reviews here). This month the box exterior looked different then the previous printed and stamped versions and included a solid box design. This is a great upgrade and the black was solid throughout and just made me more excited to delve into the box.

Pet Treater December 2015 Monthly Box

Pet Treater Monthly Subscription Box Review and Giveaway – December 2015

Pet Treater HolidayWhen I was in my early 20’s we had a family dog named Poco (short for Pocohontas). Poco was a black lab with some retriever in her – she was a smart dog. Sadly, on Easter weekend in 2006 it was discovered she had a tumor and she quickly went downhill. It began with her not knowing how to jump into the back of the car and ended with her making circles upon circles with no break. She ended up being carried outside in the sun, and while my father held her, I held her snout, and we said our goodbyes. The next thing I remember is being asked if we wanted her paw print for posterity, and that was that – our family dog was gone. It was sad, and sudden – she is missed to this day!

Given the sudden way my father lost his beloved dog, I was unsure he would ever get another dog. Then about 2 months ago he mentioned that he might be ready, after all it has been over 9 years since we lost our beloved Poco. My father decided he wanted a puppy and for it to be a Australian Labradoodle. While surprised it took him so long to get another animal, I am thrilled to officially announce that we again have a dog in our family – Meadow.

Meadow was 9 weeks old on her arrival into my father’s life, and I can honestly say 6 weeks later they are the best of friends. Since she is a puppy and there is a lot of trial and error in her preferences towards toy and treats, I thought a monthly box might be a nice solution. I reached out to Pet Treater to inquire about a possible box for Meadow, and they were generous enough to send me their December box for review.

Castile Soap Monthly Subscription Review

CastileSoap.com Monthly Subscription Review and Giveaway

Vertical Castile SoapBack in the early 2000’s I was having issues with adult acne, and other blemishes on my otherwise flawless face and while searching for remedies, Castile Soap was suggested to me. At the time, I had never heard of castile soap or where to even locate it. As luck would have it, there was a small supply at our local retail store.

I purchased a simple bar of castile soap and within a couple of days of use, I discovered that my blemishes cleared up and my skin overall looked healthier. I continued my daily use of this new “wonder” soap and as time passed it was as though my face went back in time. As I have aged about a decade since that discovery, I am now finding those old issues cropping up.

Since these issues are cropping up again, I began looking for a comparable castile soap  to replace my formerly beloved bars. In my searching I came across a company by the name of CastileSoap.com. CastileSoap.com specialized in only castile soap based soaps. while utilizing other natural and essential oils to add benefit to each bar. Castile Soap is not only bio-degradable but also organic, and contains no harsh elements, and it is safe to use on children and pets!

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review – November 2015 Box

BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review  – November 2015 Box

November Buddhi BoxThe truth of the matter is that we humans are only on this earth for a short time, and unless we make a impact or a change generation ahead are going to be in a worse world then now. My husband was taught a lesson in camping, that I believe applies to life  – Leave the campsite better then you found it. I think that this is really a lesson that applies to everyday life, not just once a year.

If we continue our destructive and somewhat careless lifestyles, then we are leaving a worse world for generations to come. We need to continue the kindness to others, continue to learn about things we do not understand, and pass on the good in human nature then things are going to get worse. That is one reason I look forward to my monthly Buddhi Box – these are messages that are important in the yoga world.

I recently received the November Buddhi Box and I am beyond impressed. Earlier in the year, I had the opportunity to review previous boxes (click here) and they are always a fun adventure in the yoga lifestyle. The message is always one of compassion, and understanding and living a pure life.

After the breast cancer theme of last month, we are back to the familiar bright green tissue paper. This month came with 3 cardboard information cards that are in full color and on thick glossy card stock. The first card was the Yoga pose of “Scale Pose” that shows the pose in full color, as well as the benefits about the pose. These pose cards are made especially for BuddhiBox – click here for a interview with their creator.  There is a recipe for a “Pumpkin Spice Cashew Cups” that is made using only 5 ingredients that creates pumpkin spice cashew cups that are similar in shape to cupcakes. The final information card included was a box content listing and on the other side the following quote:

You have no cause for anything but gratitude and joy  – The Buddha

My Paper Pumpkin November 2015 Review

My Paper Pumpkin November 2015 Kit Review and Giveaway

November Mistletoe and Holly KitWhen I was a child and teenager my job during the holidays was to do the annual holiday cards. It is important to understand that this is something I looked forward to each year. As soon as holiday cards were available at our neighborhood warehouse store, I made sure to impress upon my father their importance. What usually happened is that people we only spoke to once a year would be inspire to call and to do that once yearly checking.

As I have gotten older I no longer do cards on behalf of my father, but my own household. When Jason and I met, one of the first thing I shared was my love of sending holiday cards and he was tasked with getting his families addresses for me. As we have progressed into spouses so have my level of cards into handmade. I generally hand make cards for the holidays as well as thank you cards and invitations.

I remembered this ritual when I saw this months My Paper Pumpkin kit as I had the chance to review My Paper Pumpkin’s kit box’s previous months box (click here). As if made for me and the season the box for November was called “Mistletoe & Holly”.
