The 1970’s were known for many things including and not limited to the invention of the walk-man (1978), 1st email was sent (1971), E-Commerce was invented by Michael Aldrich (1979) and the rise of disco (1970-1979). Disco took over, the music was infectious as was the lifestyle that accompanied it.

The disco craze was not limited to the music that was played but also the clothes worn, the plans for the weekend and your dance ability. There is no movie from the 1970’s that personifies the 70’s as “Saturday Night Fever“. This movie from 1977 tells the story of a man who spends his weekends at the local discotheque. This movie features the songs of the Bee Gee’s and made Stayin’ Alive what it is today. Given the cultural impact that this movie has had on society it seems appropriate that this months Pet Gift Box theme is “Caturday Night Fever”. It is no secret that us bloggers spend many hours in front of our computers. This constant state of sitting makes the need for comfortable clothes almost a work uniform. My personal uniform is comfortable pants and a t-shirt, with a comfy pair of socks. The reason for this level of comfort is when you are sitting for a majority of the day, you want to be as comfortable as possible. I am always on the lookout for additions to my collection of comfortable clothes.

I recently happened upon FiveFingerTees.com and I have to say WOW! The first thing I noticed was the cartoon theme on the top banner. The fun banner let me know immediately that I had happened upon a fun website. I was right, they have so many shirts that I guarantee you will not be able to choose just one.

Five Finger Tees offers a wide (and I mean WIDE) variety of movie, television, sports, political, music, animal, zombie, video game and pop-culture t-shirts. There are many other varieties available and they even have humorous holiday shirts. The company is based in Boston Massachusetts and is completely family owned and operated.

This past holiday season we were at our cousins house, as he has recently taken over as official Christmas Eve host. While we were getting drinks I looked up and discovered the cutest tins with chalk writing announcing its contents. I mentioned that I loved the kitchen decorations and the hostess mentioned she was loving the chalk look and she wanted to expand upon it. When I received the August My Paper Pumpkin kit I was immediately brought back to that conversation.

I had the chance to review My Paper Pumpkin’s kit box’s previous months box (click here). I was thrilled to be given the chance to review this months box as well. The theme for August was called “Chalk It Up To Love”.

I am local girl, I was raised in the North County area of San Diego. I love to support local companies and see them grow. A shift has occurred in the past couple years that is directly related to when we purchased out home. Shortly after we bought this house I began to cook, and each day that passed found myself getting more and more interested in the concept of food. In this transitional time we watched a lot more food related television. We discovered that by watching these shows it helped us learn and expand out pallets.

One day we came across a show which featured a restaurant and a challenge. This show was “Man Vs.Food” and it slowly moved its way into our line up (by now in reruns being replayed) and we enjoyed it. When I heard that the Adam Richman, the host of the show, released a cookbook sharing recipes and stories from the show I knew that i had to get it.

Upcycle Your Wardrobe: 21 Sewing Projects for Unique, New Fashions Review and Giveaway

As many of my regular readers know I love to up-cycle items whenever possible. The last project I up-cycled was a maxi dress I purchased at Target. I did not like the top but loved the pattern and the way the dress hung to the floor. This dress sat in my closet each season, and when summer would roll around I would try to rig the dress into a skirt and wear it that way. This never really worked the way I hoped and it never looked quite right when I was wearing it. This went on for a couple of summers until I finally purchased a new sewing machine.

Having a new sewing machine finally allowed me to open my mind to the possibility of cutting the dress at the top and giving me that bottom part I desired. One night, when I was unable to sleep inspiration hit me and I knew how to cut the dress, while preserving the skirt. I eagerly pulled out my sewing machine and got the scissors out, and immediately got to cutting and resewing. After about 45 minutes what resulted was a skirt with a matching scrunchie where there was a full dress an hour before.

Life is funny sometimes in that you do not know that you need something until you are without it. This happens many times to young people when they move out for the first time and they realize that the one thing they need their parents have at their house. There are many items that fall under this category but the one I am speaking of specifically now is a thermometer.

I recall the first time that I needed a thermometer but realized I did not have one, I think my temperature was in the 100’s and I was a ton of miserable. It took me a couple of days but I finally ended up at my father’s house to use his – not surprising I went home with one of my own. Flash forward 20 years and I still have these needs and I still find myself without a thermometer, well that is until now.

I recently received a Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer to review, and I can say that this is the easiest way to take your temperature, or that of a loved one. I received the TAT-2000C model, which is the home version of the thermometer that you often see in hospitals and doctors offices. The thermometer uses the Temporal Artery on your forehead to get a highly accurate temperature. In case you do not know the Temporal Artery, located on the forehead, has a direct connection to the heart via the carotid artery. This artery has a constant blood flow which is needed for an accurate temperature measurement, and is the most convenient and comfortable place to take a temperature.

Whenever I hear the word mojo I am brought back to Austin Powers and when he lost his mojo. In the movie it is described as ones life forced, your essence and the right stuff. Mojo is defined in the dictionary as “the art of proactive of casting magic spells, magic and voodoo”. I like to think of mojo as somewhere in the middle – it is not quite magic, but when you get your own mojo going it can make all the difference in the world to your outlook.

The Mystical Mojo box chooses 3-8 items each month that work together to create a theme. The themes are anything from “Gratitude” to this months theme of “Grounding”. What the theme means is according to the enclosed box “when we are grounded we have a more conscious experience of everyday life, with a higher or more all-rounded awareness”.

I did not know what to expect when I received this 8×8 box in my mailbox, and I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. The first thing I noticed was the postcard manifest that announced this months theme as well as listing the contents of the box. In this months box were various stones, incense, incense burner plate, a cloth and a Crystal Grid pattern for the Grounding ritual. Included in this months box were the following:
