Straight Up Tasty:

Meals, Memories, and Mouthfuls from My Travels

  Review and Giveaway

Straight Up Tasty by Adam Richman

A shift has occurred in the past couple years that is directly related to when we purchased out home. Shortly after we bought this house I began to cook, and each day that passed found myself getting more and more interested in the concept of food. In this transitional time we watched a lot more food related television. We discovered that by watching these shows it helped us learn and expand out pallets.

One day we came across a show which featured a restaurant and a challenge. This show was “Man Vs.Food” and it slowly moved its way into our line up (by now in reruns being replayed) and we enjoyed it. When I heard that the Adam Richman, the host of the show, released a cookbook sharing recipes and stories from the show I knew that i had to get it.

Straight Up Tasty: Meals, Memories, and Mouthfuls from My Travels by Adam Richman is a fun culinary journey that brings the best recipes from across the country. The book covers breakfast items, lunch items, dinners, desserts, sides, condiments and everything in between that  he has  collected through Adam’s travels for the show.

The book is set-up in a “scrapbook” style and includes the recipe as well as photos of the finished meal and throughout his travels. Adam is the first to say that he is not a chef, but he does love food and this book is the personification of that thought. This 224 page book is packed with over 100 recipes, as well as personal thoughts on where to get the best burger and many other thoughts.

The book includes recipes that will appeal to almost everyone and include items such as: Bacon and Cheddar Frittata”; “Grandma’s Home-Style Brisket”; “French Farmhouse-Style Simple Roasted Chicken”; “Southwest Relish”; “Salted Caramel Candy Apple Tarts”; and “Creamy Tomato Soup with Grilled-Cheese Sandwich Dumplings” just to name a few.

If you are a fan of his show or not, this is a great colorful addition to add to your cookbook collection. There are so many great recipes in here it is hard to choose one!

My favorite place to eat is a sushi restaurant in Chicago named Yuzu. The maki roll Black Sea is my favorite. It has several types of fish & sunflower seeds & is rolled in black tobiko. Yummy!!

Chuy’s. Their bean and cheese sopapillas. It isn’t on the menu, but most Chuy’s can make it if you ask for it. The best I’ve had is from the Chuy’s in Waco TX.

It depends on my mood but I really like the variety at Chilis and also getting to choose between Breakfast or Lunch/Dinner at iHop.

I love some fresh Italian pasta with lots of bread and oil. The more garlic the better.

My son likes going to Denny’s so that is where we always go. They have gotten to know him and are really good to him.

We recently moved so we are still looking for a nearby favorite restaurant.

Applebee’s makes a wonderful sirloin and shrimp with a Parmesan cream sauce

I don’t have a favorite place that we visit regularly, but while in Spain we had amazing food at the B&B we stayed at. Does that count? I loved the food because it was the most delicious meal I had ever had, and it was food that I had never tried before.

I love Dame’s Chicken and Waffles in Durham, NC. I love to support local businesses and their chicken cutlets on sweet potato waffles with infused butter shmears are AMAZING! On weekends there are 2 hour waits to get in and eventually they stop putting people on the wait list. It’s that good.

There is a place down in Myrtle Beach, SC called Angelo’s that makes the best steak that I’ve ever had!
