Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome – June 2016 Review

Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome – June 2016 Review

June Mystery Box of AwesomeWhen I was a kid there was a store in the neighboring town that was part thrift store, part supply store and part flea market.  This store had everything from toys to dental tools. My father would take me to this store and I would venture off to find some random item I could up-cycle into a useful something.

As I got older, I saw the genius in a store of this nature and now as a homeowner I find myself missing the store I used to see the passage of time inside. I often wish I could go to this store, walk the isles and pickup a random sampling of items that would be useful for my home.

I am very happy to say that I have discovered that long-lost store in the form of a monthly box. The Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome by That Daily Deal.com is the random equivalent of that long-lost store. Each month no theme is chosen, but rather a selection of random gender neutral items that will undoubtedly meet a need in your life that you never knew was missing.

Motsenbocker’s Lift Off Review

Motsenbocker Liftoff: Spray Paint Graffiti Remover and Latex Paint Remover  Review and Giveaway

Lift Off Duo RemoverI am a messy crafter and if there is paint or other permanent implements are involved all bets are off.

Let me share a prime example of the phenomenon I am talking about. It was about 6 months ago, and I had the genius idea to melt crayons on a canvas in the middle of my lifting room, against my new couch. I did have the foresight to put down a tarp but sadly I underestimated the wax and paints ability to travel. As I was blissfully and ignorantly melting the crayon and the paint flew with the dryer on low-speed, when Jason noticed something askew. Sadly, I had created a splatter painting of wax and paint on the uncovered surfaces around me.

While this was not the ideal situation, luck seems to always be on our side. Around the time I began to seriously thinking needed to rectify the mess I made and email arrived. The email I received was from Motsenbockers asking if I wanted to review two of their cleaning products.

The Healing Tree Soap and Candle Review

The Healing Tree: Soap and Candle Review

The Healing Tree Candle and SoapI have noticed a trend recently, the use of charcoal in soap. Now on the first thought, it is a question as to why you would want to use something that is an ashy black residue that usually contains ash. Despite charcoals apparent downsides, these are really upsides. Read further to let me explain further.

The use of charcoal has many benefits including removing dangerous toxins from your body, reduces the appearance of acne and can remove the dead skin that can cause skin problems.

I met The Healing Tree at The Natural Products Expo an reached out for an opportunity to review a couple of items. Continue reading

Cave Tools: Meat Tenderizer Mallet Review

THe Ultimate Meat TenderizerSometimes I feel like I am a broken record, but it really is true that coincidence plays an important role in my life.

Jason and I watch many hours of the food channel and we are always picking up hints and clue about cooking. The one thing that we notice is the preparation really does make the difference. This is exhibited each night when we make our nightly dinner.

Recently I was approached by Cave Tools with an opportunity to review an item. After careful contemplation I decided on the Meat Tenderizer Mallet Tool. Continue reading

Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome – May 2016 Review

Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome – May 2016 Review

Box of Awesome May 2016Each year before school started I would get a set amount to spend on clothes. It was my responsibility to spend wisely. I was never a teenager who spent a ton of money on designer clothes, or accessories. I have always looked for comfort and an affordable price. Even now when I do any type of shopping I look for the best deals and steals.

Clearance racks are my favorite places in the store and I love to visit discount store. The more I can get with a fixed amount of money the happier I leave a store or website.

It is in this money-saving and deal holding spirit that I was introduced to the Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome by That Daily Deal.com. Each month no theme is chosen, but rather a selection of random gender neutral items.

Cat Lady Box Monthly Subscription Review: May 2016

Cat Lady Box Monthly Subscription Review and Giveaway – May/Cat Mom’s Day 2016

May 2016 Box ContentsWhile I have not had the best history with mothers in my life, I can see the love and see how a mothers love is irreplaceable. Due to my shaky history with my own mother I think at times i might over compensate with Maggee and Murfee.

Let me explain a little further to bring some clarity. I was raised from a young age by my father and while I learned many valuable lessons, I did miss my mother. It was made clear early on that my mother wanted nothing to do with me, and while this was hurtful, it ended up being for the best. I did not have an example of a mother, so I base my experience on snippets of mom’s i have seen my life.

At times I think this has worked well, and it really is a broad example base. Recently Jason has made comments and dropped words such as “helicopter” and “smother and mother”. I think during this time of year, as much as I love the moms in my life, I overcompensate with my two cats. Lucky for me they seem to love the love!

It was announced that this months Cat Lady Box would have a “Mothers” theme, and they delivered. To say that each box is “pawsome” is an understatement. Each month is better than the last, (see previous reviews here). The box exterior is printed with the logo in black and is almost a proud announcement of your Cat Lady status. Once the box is open, you are greeted with a black tissue with a sticker enclosing everything in the box. The box is packaged well, and there is space enough that items do not get smooshed and smashed together.

Skoy Eco-Cleaning Cloth Review

Skoy: Eco-Cleaning Cloth Review and Giveaway

Skoy ClothsI have a confession – I am a paper towel user. There is a convenience and an ease that comes with their use that makes them quick and disposable.

Jason recently brought to my attention this when he noticed that our grocery bill each week consisted of paper towels. My knee-jerk reaction to this news at first was defensive. I became instantly defensive of my consumption of paper goods, and immediately began to justify it. My main argument was that I had been using these disposable cloths since I was young and it was “easier” to use these instead of a more sustainable option.

As time has passed and I read more and more about environmental sustainability I realize that while I might at times disagree with Jason, this time he might be right. I began experimenting with different cloths and different textures to see if I could find something that would be as easy and versatile as paper.

Since I am a reviewer I am constantly searching for alternatives to the products that I use and since Jason had recently brought the paper towel to my attention I decided that would be my search. One of the first companies I came upon Skoy Enterprises Skoy Cloths.

Auromere Incense Review

Auromere: Flowers & Spice Incense Review and Giveaway

Auromere Incense Sampler packWhen I was a teenager many of my friends burned incense. I on the other hand did not know what these smelly sticks were, so I erred on the side of caution. As I got older, and presumably wiser, I realized that these sticks were simply a simple way to make your environment smell better. Now that I am firmly in my 4th decade of life I realize that these sticks can have some mental and physical benefits.

When I was recently at the Natural Products Expo and as I was walking around and I came upon Auromere’s booth and was halted by the wonderful smelling products that included not only personal care items such as shampoo’s, toothpaste’s as well as the incense I received after the show for review.

Zero Water Ready Pour Review

Zero Water: 12-Cup Ready Pour Review

Zero Water FilterIt is funny how you can live with a person for years and each day still learn something about them. I recently had this happen with Jason and water. As long as I have known him he has drank a bunch of water, but usually we have it filtered. We recently began purchasing 16 ounce bottles of water and, as it turns out my water drinker is not much of a bottle water drinker.

As it turns out he much prefers the filtered version from a water pitcher. As for me, as long as I have a version of water in the house I am happy. Jason tends to drink a lot more water than me, and when he is sick he triples his water intake. We have been talking about getting a water pitcher with a filter. We have limited space in our refrigerator so the more capacity and less space was a reason for our selectiveness.

We have been reading reviews (yes, even reviewers read reviews) and were beginning to close in on a decision that made both of us happy and met our stringent requirements. I have said before that being a review blogger and timing often coincide, and this is one of those times. I received an offer to review Zero Water’s 12 cup Ready Pour filter, and thought this might be the answer to our wish list.

Culinary Corner Review

Culinary Corner: Spatula, Silicone Mat and Ice Ball Review and Giveaway

Culinary Corner SetI readily admit that I am not much of a meal chef, but I am a baker. When I was a teenager my best friends and I would always make cookies late at night. I am not sure where or when this tradition started, but it stayed throughout our high school career.

Sadly those days are about 25 years behind me, but what is not behind me is my love of baking. I love baking so much that each year during the holidays I volunteer to make the bread that will be broken at our table. I know that sounds a little over dramatic for bread, but it is important to put love and care into the foods that we share.

An important element in cooking is the utensils that are used and the care taken combining and cooking the ingredients. I love to try new products and since I am still beginning to build my collection I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to review a couple of Culinary Corner’s products.
