Health conscious is not a quality many of my family and friends would use to describe me. I generally avoid anything natural, always choosing the over processed counter part. In high school my friends recall stories of me bringing an entire box of chips in the morning to school and by afternoon the chips were reduced to only crumbs. As a teenager and young adult I was gifted with a high metabolism which made gaining weight nearly an impossible task. Somewhere in my mid to late 20’s my metabolism changed and all of a sudden I found myself gaining weight. As I creep closer to my 40th birthday I am finding that, not only can I gain weight, but also keep the weight I currently have. This usually results in a no loss/no gain situation which has made me start watching what I eat since it seems to stay with me for a while.

I happened upon GoodOnYa bars while I was strolling through my local Whole Foods store. While I was looking at the packaging I not only saw that they were Non-GMO, USDA Certified, Gluten-Free but had a new great taste! The packaging of the bars came in bright colors (brown, orange and yellow with a blue background) that immediately draws your eye. I also noticed that the drinks were also labeled with coordinating colors to the drink inside, also drawing the eye to the product.

When I reached out the company they were generous enough to send me a box for review. The box I received was heavier and larger than I anticipated. Once I opened the package I saw what attributed to the added weight, it was each of their drink offerings and bars. They also included 2 stickers reminding me “you matter” which is a wonderful reminder in a world that often forgets that everyone does matter.

The company sent me 1 of each of their GoodOnYa hydrate drinks and each of their bars to try: Organic Lemons – contains 10% juice, 1 gram of sugar from organic juice and the herb stevia to sweeten, Organic Berries – contains 14% juice as well 5 grams of sweetening stevia, Organic Oranges and Pineapples – contains 12% juice and 5 grams of stevia for sweetening. Each bottle is lettered in colorful attention-getting colors that coordinate to the fluid inside the bottle such as the orange pineapple was orange, the lemons were a pale yellow and berries come in a deep cranberry color.

My mother-in-law comes from an Italian family – the type that has buckets of food and there is no such thing as declining an offer for a meal. My husband has high standards where sauces are concerned and finding a sauce as good as he remembers from his adolescence is nothing short of almost impossible. I, on the other hand grew up on a combination of a homemade version of the store-bought sauces as a base. Needless to say, Jason and I have very different opinions of what makes a good sauce.

In my quest to locate the perfect sauce I reached out to Uncle Steve’s Italian Specialties for a sample of their sauces. They were kind enough to send me 1 jar of each of their Tomato Basil Sauce, Marinara Sauce, Spicy Arrabiata Sauce. Also, included was a branded wooden spoon which I found very neat because I had been wanting a nice quality wooden spoon.

As I creep closer to 40 I find that I have a sensitive tummy much like my father did at my age (darn genetics), and sadly spicy tomato products irritate the condition. Due to the sensitivity issues I have we tested the two non spicy varieties, but I gave the spicy to a friend and they LOVED it! They said that it was spicy without a spicy after taste and was one of the best spicy sauces they have had.

Seponifiq – Bread and Lettuce Sepo Sauce Review and Giveaway!

If you are anything like me you have never tried Sepo sauce. Well that is not entirely true, I recently tried Seponifiq’s Bread and Lettuce Sauce.

The easiest way for me to describe Sepo Sauce, it that it is a bread and lettuce sauce that is packed with flavor. The texture and consistency are similar to thick salad dressing and when refrigerated the consistency is so thick that you can turn the open jar upside down with little to no sauce loss. Once the jar is open, the first thing you smell is a pleasant combination of garlic and mustard. The flavor is reminiscent of a caesar dressing, and tastes of garlic, horseradish with a small back note of vinegar. The sauce is not spicy, and is easy to spread and loaded with possibilities and flavor.

When you generally think of granola a couple of adjectives come to mind: outdoors, natural, healthy and durable. I love having simple granola snacks in my house despite being less than an outdoors person. There is nothing simpler then a bag of healthy tasty granola for an afternoon snack. Granola is just as versatile as it is tasty and this granola from a family run business in Shirley, MA is no exception.

The benefit of review blogging is being given the opportunity to try different types of the snacks and products I already enjoy. All the while supporting a small family run business and product, such as Golden Girl Granola. I was graciously sent 4 bags of my choosing to sample. The ones I chose were Bluesberry, Chocolate Decadence, Home Sweet Honey and Forest Maple. The other flavors I did not choose were Creative Cranberry, Truly Tropical and The Original. 6 Tips For Traveling and Being Gluten Free

Traveling While Gluten Free

Let’s be honest for a moment, being gluten-free and traveling is nothing short of a frustrating. From finding snack items that are gluten-free at unfamiliar stores, to locating restaurants that have gluten-free options traveling can be a challenge. The struggle then becomes the added cost to the gluten-free menu items or menu changes for gluten-free that might not have been worked into your original budget.

In light of this struggle have compiled some tips to make travel a little easier and hopefully a little less frustrating.

1. My first tip also comes with a fun project that you can have kids help you with. Pre-package snacks in plastic bags, count them out and tie them with cute or color coded ties. This makes for easy grab and go accessibility whenever needed.

How To: I opened each bag and counted out 5 of each flavor. I took 4 plastic bags and cut 4 green and 4 yellow raffia into 5 inch sections. I placed 5 pretzels of each flavor in the bag and the tied the bag with one green and one yellow tie. I chose to place my completed bags into the freezer for a cool easy treat to take on road trips.

2. Do your research and look ahead for gluten-free restaurants in the area in which you are traveling. Many places have a gluten-free menu and are local places are not only unique places to eat but generally care about the food the serve and use the highest ingredients which many times means organic, fresh and locally grown.

I am usually very apprehensive to eating things out of packages that I can not read, or even decipher. Something inside of me shifted when I realized that almost 40 years of my life has sprinted by and I might really be missing out on something. In my quest to expand my taste buds and explore my otherwise adventure-less side, I decided to reach out to Munch Pak. In response to my request they were kind enough to send me a Munch Pak Mini for my review.

Let me be honest, I did not know what to expect. I perused their website before I received my package and noticed that they had numerous options to customize the box that I could receive.

The options to customize were numerous and included the inclusion or exclusion of nuts, salty, sour, sweet, spicy, chewy, crunchy, gummy, seafood, meat, candy, chips, cookies, foreign snacks and American snacks. Each of these options do have an additional $1.00 fee. Munch Pak also offer’s a drink option for an additional $5.00 and include coffee and non-coffee options that can be included in your box.

A couple posts ago I mentioned about “must haves” and if we are not willing to try new items then we may miss out on a new thing we “must have”. This review is all about experimentation and finding the our new favorite product.

The first thing I have to say about this box was it was shocking how heavy it was, I never expected a weight to the box. Drinking tea is something I have done since I was in my mid teens. Tea is one of those things that help me relax after a long day, or during the less pleasant times of the month I encounter.
