Drinking tea is something I have done since I was in my mid teens. Tea is one of those things that help me relax after a long day, or during the less pleasant times of the month I encounter.

I drink iced tea throughout the day but rarely have hot tea. This has begun to change as I get older, and find a cup before bed is quite relaxing. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to the use the Smart Tea Maker to brew the tea sampler they sent to me.

I was able to sample the Variety Sampler, which includes the following flavors:

• English Breakfast Black Tea
• Indian Mocha Chai
• Chamomile
• Strawberry Black Tea
• Dragon Well Green Tea, (Lung Ching)
• Formosa Paochong, (Bao Zhong)
• Provence Rooibos
• Zhejiang Silver Needle, (Zhejiang Bai Hao Yinzhen)

With each of the 8 varieties I sampled I was amazed at the varying leaves in each tin (from left to right:Indian Mocha Chai, Provence Rooibos, Dragon Well Green Tea and Zhejiang Silver Needle). Each tin also has between .5 oz and 1.25 oz depending on leaf size. My favorite was the Indian Mocha Chai, the leaves prior to brewing smelled of mocha and Chai becoming more pronounced as I brewed the tea. This tea transported me to a small town in Thailand, where I first tried Chai teas.

I also had the opportunity to review the Smart Tea Maker. This is a simple device that allows you to brew whole leaf tea without getting the leaves in the tea. There is a guide included that gives the water to leaf ratio and suggested steeping times. The instructions are as simple as any other tea making method are are as follows:

1. Place tea leaves in the Smart Tea Maker.
2. Add boiling water.
3. Steep tea to your taste.
4. Place the Smart Tea Maker on top of a cup or mug and let the tea drain into the cup.
5. Remove the Smart Tea Maker to stop the flow. Your tea is ready to serve.

This Smart Tea Maker is dishwasher safe and easily rinses out after use.

I would recommend microwaving your water in the mug/cup you plan to use and then pour that into the Smart Tea Maker – this will avoid any overage spilling. I let the water and leaves sit for about 5 1/2 minutes and this made a flavorful and properly seeped tea. I loved this easy method of making tea and will rarely use the pre-made bagged versions.
