Crunchmaster Review and Giveaway

Crunchmaster all lineupI have mentioned this in the past that we are a snack house we really love our snacks! The most recent snack that we have begun snacking on is cheese and crackers. There is something very simple about a cracker and slice of cheese. We usually do a sharp cheddar and a white cheese of some sort.

As cheese and cracker snack people we are always excited to try different chips and crackers. I have begun also adding meat to our cracker snacks which adds a savory element to a simple snack. I have recently been looking for crackers that are versatile tasting from tuna salad to cheese.

Nielsen-Massey Vanillas – Vanilla Extract Review and Giveaway

Nielsen-Massey Vanilla-1When I was a teenager one of my favorite things to do was bake. I would always invite one of my two best friends over to my house, and that is where they would stay. My friends would come home with me on a Friday afternoon and go to school with me Monday mornings. I grew up an only child, so this gave me a feeling that I had two sisters. During the weekend it was inevitable that we would bake cookies or a cake – it was constant. I have gotten older I no longer have those weekend long slumber parties (do doubt a relief to Jason). The other thing I no longer do it bake every weekend. This lack of baking is not because I do not enjoy it, but more that life gets in the way.

These days the only baking that gets done is the occasional cookies – which usually involved assistance from Jason. There is an exception to this and that time is approaching – the holidays! Each year I bake an assortment of breads for our family and friends to enjoy. This year I am moving on from my generic vanilla I normally use.

I recently received a 2 ounce bottle of Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla by Nielson-Massey Vanillas. This vanilla is Non-GMO, Kosher, gluten-free, all-natural and allergen free. This is a pure vanilla extract that is made using their proprietary cold extraction technique. The cold extraction technique that is used draws out the over 300 flavor compounds, while preserving the vanilla. This pure extract is available in 2 oz., 4 oz., 8 oz., and an industrial size 32 oz bottles.

Earnest Eats Review

Earnest Eats Review and Giveaway

Collage of productsAs I review blogger I get items for review in a variety of ways that range from press releases to simple pitches from companies. While these are the most common ways I acquire my review items, there is another way.

One night Jason and I were sitting around watching Food Network, as we often do. A new show came on called Food Fortunes and one of the companies featured was Earnest Eats. The gave the panel a sample of their hot and fit cereal. The product looked so good on television that I decided to reach out for a sample.

Mrs. Thinsters Waffle Crisps Review

Mrs. Thinster’s: Waffle Crisps Review and Giveaway

Mrs Thinsers Waffle CrispsLearning to cook is much more than just main dish, and to be a well-rounded home cook many items need to be learned including appetizers and desserts. I have always been a baker but I wanted to get into a fresher more seasonal type dessert. Jason and I have begun making “fruit yummies” for desserts lately. Basically “fruit yummies” are fruits that are macerated and drained, then put in a bowl with homemade whipped cream and topped with vanilla sugar and usually a crispy element.

One day while we were walking through the local store looking for different elements for our newest dessert craze we were sadly, coming up empty. We debated chocolate cookies but we did not want a chocolate element involved. Jason suggested that we use our waffle maker to make our own version of the waffle cookies we saw in the store. Unfortunately this ended up being much more work than anticipated – then a solution arrived – Mrs. Thinster’s Waffle Crisps.

Safe Catch Tuna Review and Giveaway

Safe Catch TunaAs ones pallet matures and gets more refined minor variations in taste become more obvious. I mention this because there are a couple foods that no matter what, the more you pay the better the product. These type of items are peanut butter, honey, pancake syrup and tuna.

There have been moments in the past (shhh don’t tell Jason) that I have tried to pull the wool over his eyes and bought the lesser versions. Nine times out of ten his refined pallet knows the difference and I am unable to fool him otherwise. Where this becomes obvious in tuna and tuna quality.

Let’s talk for a moment about tuna, quality and mercury. Tuna is notorious for having mercury and because of this tuna is generally not safe for pregnant women – until now! I recently tried a new brand of Wild Albacore tuna and Wild Skipjack Tuna (no longer available on their website) by a company called Safe Catch by Safe Foods.
