Goodie Girl: 2015 Holiday Goodie Bag Giveaway!!!

Jason and I are fans of a good cookie and lucky for us I get to sample and try a fair amount of cookies in a wide variety of flavors. Back in July 2015 I reviewed a cookie company that is based out of the Tribeca Neighborhood in New York City. This company was called Goodie Girl and they were easily one of the better cookies we sample.

The thing that was special about Goodie Girl cookies is that they are gluten-free, but do not taste gluten-free. I have discovered that many items that are gluten-free and unfortunately have a really unpleasant after taste. The thing that got my attention about Goodie Girl is that they are all the cookies we know and love but are safe for those with gluten issues and do not have that after taste. I would have to say that my favorite cookie is the Mint Slims, the taste is identical to the yearly Girl Scout treat. My second favorite was the Chocolate Chip and it reminded me of a classic chocolate chip cookie and was similar in taste to Famous Amos cookies.

Mrs. Thinster’s: Cookie Thins Review and Giveaway

I have mentioned in the past that I am a cookie monster – I love cookies! If I had to choose one cookie over the other I would have to say Chocolate Chip Cookies are my favorites. In my opinion it is hard to really mess up the taste of a chocolate chip cookie. The other thing that I love is raw batters, although I know that they are bad for me with the raw egg element. I have always wanted a cookie with a batter taste, and I think I may have found them.

I was sent a box from That’s How We Roll and Mrs. Thinster’s. The box I received had 3 bags of cookies including Brownie Batter Cookie Thins, Chocolate Chip Cookie Thins and Cake Batter Cookie Thins. The idea behind these cookies that are thin but fill of taste. The round shape are reminiscent of the traditional thick cookie counterpart and full of flavor. Continue reading →

I think I have mentioned in the past that I am a cookie monster. I really do love my cookies and will devour almost any flavor and any variety. When I was young a highlight of the winter season was receiving that magical tin of cookies with crispy sugar on the tops. Looking back I realize that these were simply shortbread cookies and have become available year round. Why am I mentioning this holiday staple? The answer is simpler than you can imagine. I have been a cookie fan since I was a child, in fact I recently admitted to being a cookie monster since I was young. My favorite cookie memory involves my best friends from youth. Each weekend I would play host to slumber parties and 2:00am cookie making messes. Generally speaking we made chocolate chip, oatmeal or peanut butter but sometimes we would venture into the fancier cookie books and attempt a recipe.

Flash forward 25 years later and I still love baking cookies, as well as convincing my friends to come and help me bake them. The major difference is that my cookie making confidence is much higher than at 15 years old. I love cookbooks and recently was given the chance to review Cookie Love: More Than 60 Recipes and Techniques for Turning the Ordinary into the Extraordinary by Mindy Segal.

This collection is over 280 pages of recipes, cookie making basics that cover tools used and common tricks, as well as measurement conversion charts. This book includes some of the best cookie recipes I have ever heard of including snickerdoodles, smoked almond shortbread with orange blossom and raspberry framboise, cheese board biscotti and many others.

If you are a fan of quality cookie themed cookbooks and unique recipes I highly recommend this book full of “Cookie Love”.

I feel as though we have been light on the admissions around here so thought it was a great time to admit to you all that we are a sweet house. At times I wonder if our house has more sweets than proteins. We love cookies, cakes, brownies, and any combination of those that a person can dream of.
