The Uncolored Book for You to Color Review

The Uncolored Book for You to Color – Review and Giveaway

The Uncolored BookI am a proud child of the 1980’s and I am a fan of everything 90’s. I love this two decade block and often reminisce about my years spend in that decade. I am reminded of a phase I went through where I was under the false impression I was a skateboarder. My father, being the supportive parent he always was, got me a cost-effective, yet stable skateboard to live out my delusions/dreams. I would walk to the end of the street, put the board down, and then proceed to sit on the board for the ride down the hill never having the courage to stand-up.

Our driveway had a steep incline and I was always scared the bump from driveway to street would kill me, I mean every time I tried it I would fall. I never progressed past the point of knee boarding and sitting, but I always appreciated the talent of those that were able to stand. I saw skateboarding as part creativity and part talent, which I had but not in the sports.

I love that when you get a coloring book you are getting to see a piece of the artist’s creativity and talent. When I recently had the opportunity to review The Uncolored Book for You to Color by Matt French, I knew this would be a fun journey because it is a combination of the creativity and talent I so crave as a crafter.

The Uncolored Book for You to Color by Matt French is a less mainstream, but a completely unique and different coloring book that is more than the mandalas, and cartoon characters normally seen in adult coloring books.

Uncolored Book CollageAs you thumb through this 80 page coloring book it is obvious it is based more on the artists vision than anything else. The best way to think of this coloring book is that it combines the world of skateboarding and humorous monsters into one vision. The art throughout the book is the type artwork you see on the bottom of skateboards, minus the color. An interesting side note about the author is that he honed his drawing skills while serving time for graffiti charges – ironic right?

All of the art is hand drawn in pen and ink and it is left to your imagination to add the color. While some of the imagery was a little harsh for me, Jason has loved this coloring book. The coloring book actually sits on his desk at work with colored-pencils nearby for his co-workers, for when they need a momentary break. The downside is that this is bound book which makes the removal of the pages a little more of a challenge. Also, the pictures are on each side so be cautious of bleed through when you are using pens.

This is an appropriate book for adults, children, skateboarders, and creative types alike. I imagine tracing one of these designs on a skateboard and add the color from there.

I have requested that the book come home soon so I can color, if there are any pages left to color – it is quite the popular.

I haven’t colored in years, but I would enjoy coloring some of the pretty mandala coloring sheets.

I like to color art that has a lot of little spaces and doodles, etc. So animal, pattern, whatever I don’t mind, but it needs to have a lot of areas in which to fill in.

Being a teen in the 80’s I used to draw like this on my jeans and jean jackets.

Adult coloring books are becoming the big deal for adults so maybe I should give them a try if I win!
