Salba Smart Whole Seeds – Review and Giveaway
One of my favorite things about doing reviews is hearing Jason’s initial reaction because more often then not they are funny. I am happy to say that this review was no exception, but more mainstream than I expect normally. The first question that I was asked was if we could grow these into a pet of some variety, then the song that we all know was heard in his sarcastic tone.
While I had to break the news to Jason that these were not the chia seeds that could sprout green stems, these are the seeds that will replace our current supplements. Chia has been around since around 3500BC and the Aztec’s thought of it as a superfood.
I had recently tried a chia based drink and I was interested in a different delivery method of the chia since I could see the benefits. I was sent a 12.7 oz bag of Whole Salba Chia Seeds from Salba Smart Natural Products. Salba Chia is an amazing seed that contains so much goodness in each tablespoon.
Salba Smart Whole Salba Chia Seeds pack 5 times more Folate than Spinach, 5 times more calcium than milk, 30% more antioxidants than blueberries and 15 times more magnesium than broccoli, and that is just to name a few. As I began researching Chia seeds further I realized that this simple seed can be mixed into anything from smoothies to oatmeal.
These are tiny seeds that are grown under only one grower under strictly controlled growing conditions which gives you a consistent and pure product. Salba Chia seeds are not only gluten-free, but contain no trans-fats and is Non-GMO project verified. These all natural seeds contain a lot of goodness in each 15 gram/1 tablespoon serving.
I was curious as to how I could utilize these seeds in the most tasty and effective way. After some research I decided to grind these seeds down so that I could add them to my oatmeal. I decided that the most effective use of these was to grind a cup or so of these at the beginning of the week so the ground can be added to meals quickly throughout the week, keeping the grinding fresh. These do not have a taste on their own, which gives them the opportunity to blend into almost any food, with no additional flavor profiles added.
The Salba Chia Seeds come in a resealable pouch that makes storage simple, and adaptable. It is important to note that if you use the whole seeds and add a fluid such as milk or water these seeds will increase in size and become a little on the slimy side (think of a boba type consistency). I would personally recommend grinding them in a food processor or even a magic bullet, as this adds to the versatility of the seeds.
In the end, while these are unable to sprout and become an edible cat toy, I think that they are pretty mind-blowing none-the-less. When you are adding an item to your diet that has this much care taken from growing to the harvesting you know you are getting a pure product. I would highly recommend this nutrient filled seed to EVERYONE!
