Paper Pumpkin – May 2016 Review and Giveaway

June has always been a special month to me for 2 reasons. The first being it was traditionally when my summer would begin and my birthday is approaching (July). The second reason is that it is the month in which I get to celebrate my father.

I am appreciative of my father for many reasons, least of which is that from 5 years old he raised me. I learned to drive from my father, I celebrate my accomplishments and my biggest heart-breaks. Jason and I appreciate my father, and we try to show our appreciation each day.

My entire life I have made cards and plaques for Father’s Day. This year this task has been made much easier due to receiving the May 2016 Paper Pumpkin kit “Many Manly Occasions”.

Gothic Halloween: A Scary Adult Coloring Book Review and Giveaway

Let me take you back in time to the early 1990’s. I was a kid that had friends that were on the nerd end of the computer age. Due to having these friends I was introduced to bulletin board Systems. These were early ways for people to meet and talk – think early chat rooms.

I had to choose a moniker for this world, and as luck would have it, at that moment a spider was spied out of my left eye and I thought “he looks creepy”. For some reason I thought “Creepy” would be a cute moniker and it stuck.

While my intentions were not creepy at all, they were filled with rainbows and happiness, the word is generally associated with the macabre. The other word that has the same contentions is the word gothic. Generally I associate it with Halloween. To the Loom: Ocean Inspired Blanket

Recently I received the Martha Stewart Loom Kit to review. At the time I was not sure what I wanted to create but then inspiration struck – I would loom a blanket! I decided that it would be ocean and wave inspired since I live close to the coast.

I headed over to my local Walmart and looked at all the available yarn colors and as I was standing there I saw a pretty blue/turquoise variegated yarn. From there I chose colors within that same family as well as 1 contrasting color.

Here is my supply list: Martha Stewart Loom Kit, Red Heart Super Saver Accent in Pool, Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Delft Blue, Turqua, Macaw, Royal and Grey Heather.

My plan is to use 2 colors of yard, using the square-shaped frame, with each side containing 24 pegs (total of 96 pegs around), and looming the two together.

I can already see it will be important to make sure my yarn does not get twisted and remains as flat as possible. Also, I know from my practice runs that as it gets closer to the end of the second yarn, the tighter the weave becomes.

So with those things in mind my goal is to make this blanket large enough that both Jason and I can use it while movie watching or use it as a blanket on chilly nights.

Need a box? Look in your freezer

Turn a Corn Dog Box into Functional Storage

Anybody who knows me knows I am constantly looking for ways to turn trash to treasure. I have a TON of craft supplies and really not a lot of space in which to store it in, so since space is a commodity I am always looking for creative uses of the space that is available.

We love corn dogs around here, and the cardboard boxes they come in are actually a good quality of cardboard! I have a ton of stamps and they needed a home. I have been saving these corn dog boxes and using them in my store-room and then it came to me: RECOVER THEM!!!!

The box is a colorful so I knew I needed either dark paper or thick paper so I would not have any color bleed through.

I chose a green butterfly wrapping paper (from Current – LOVE THEIR PAPER!!)

I began wrapping it, using two separate pieces of enough paper to wrap a box (the paper, if not on a roll, will come in this size by default). I cut about 5-6 inches off the long side and began wrapping. I folded the edges over the box and taped the entire length of the interior of the box.

When I was done, this was what I ended up with, and it took me about 20 minutes to wrap the whole thing.

Whisker Graphics Review and Giveaway

As I have gotten older, I have found that it is far more satisfying to give a gift than receive one. The other issue that becomes apparent when you get older is that gift purchasing becomes much more difficult than it was before.

The main issue I have found is that it is hard to buy gifts for people when most people simply go out and buy what they want, instead of hoping that they might get it from a gift giving celebration. To combat this issue I lean towards the handmade end, or gift cards for gifts.

I am on a constant search to find, not only the perfect gift, but the perfect presentation. Back in January I attended the Craft and Hobby Mega Show in Anaheim I saw many options for gift presentation. One of the companies that got my attention was Whisker Graphics and they were kind enough to send me an assortment of products for review.

Coloring Book for Adults: Stress Relieving Stained Glass Review and Giveaway

I will be honest and say that of all the things that I think about in an average day, generally speaking glass is not one the items. Recently I have been looking at glass differently than I have in the past.

The main reason for this is that recently Jason and I were at a wedding and the centerpiece to the ceremony was a beautiful and intricate stained glass that was handmade and represented the journey the couple went through to reach the point they were on that special day. This piece was a collaboration between bride. groom and glass artist.

Throughout the day we were noticing different elements and we enjoyed interpreting the glass pieces. Upon our return home, whenever either Jason or I sees stained glass we stop and look and interpret the piece. When I received a copy of Coloring Book for Adults: Stress Relieving Stained Glass by Blue Star Coloring I instantly remembered that fantastic glass piece.
