Skyhorse Publishing – Adult Coloring Books Review

Skyhorse Publishing – Adult Coloring Books Review and Giveaway

Spines of Coloring booksBeing a child of the 1970’s it was before the age of computers and before the use of technology overtook time outside. When it rained outside and bikes could not be ridden and trees were unable to be climbed our choices took on a more creative tone. Many of my friends liked to draw or paint, but I was always a fan of coloring. My absolute favorite thing was when I not only had a new coloring book but a new set of crayons or colored pencils.

Flash ahead about 30 years, give or take a couple of years, and I still love to color. When I was young it was Rainbow Brite, Smurfs and Cabbage Patch Kids. Today the leaning is a little more towards shapes, Paisley and mandalas so I accepted when I received an opportunity to review Skyhorse Publishing’s range of coloring books.

The saying that the products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge courtesy of Skyhorse Publishing. This post may have affiliate links but this in no way will influence the review to follow and all opinions are my own.

All 7 Coloring BooksI was sent a variety of coloring books to review and color inside of. I received a couple of Paisley themed books titled Paisleys: Coloring for Everyone and Paisleys: Coloring for Artists. The main difference in the two books is the intricacy of the Paisley patterns contained therein.  I received Zen Pattern and Designs for Everyone and Zen Pattern and Designs for Artists which contained patterns inspired by Zen and Buddha lifestyles. Again the difference between the two books was the intricacy of the patterns. I received a book full of Mandala’s called Mandalas: Coloring for Everyone, which contained a collection of patterns that include stars with shapes and circles. Whimsical Art and Art Nouveau made an appearance in the form of book’s called Whimsical Designs: Coloring for Artists as well as Art Nouveau: Coloring for Everyone which celebrate the whimsical and art in the world.

Each of these books have about 46 patterns to color and are printed in dark outlines on a nice weight card stock with perforated sheets that tear out of the book easy. In the front of each books are colored versions of the patterns included in the book. These books are about 8 1/2 by 10 size which makes it easy for framing, storing or sharing the pictures included in them! I used colored pencils on my master piece’s, but crayons or paint would work just as well.

I am all for a little mental freedom and letting the brain wander, and there is few ways better than the simplicity of coloring. I would urge everyone to indulge the child in you and pick one up – can’t decide on one? Ask me, I will help you decide.

Actually, being creative is a great way to relax. I like to colour as well as crochet and sew 🙂 I like to see the end results!

Regrettably, I have always had a disdain for art ever since I was little. I was never very good at creating things and my perfectionist attitude prevented me from appreciating the things I made. However, a coloring book is right up my alley as it allows me to express myself creatively and yet the sketches allow for a broad possibility of “perfection”.

I love to color, draw and play video games! I just bought my first adult coloring book because I’ll be super lazy for the next 2 months (double mastectomy + tissue expanders). The thought of being able to color is the only thing keeping me sane! LOL!

I’m so excited by this. Consider me back in the dark ages, but I never even knew this type of thing existed. I love coloring to relax, but was always forced to use kids coloring books (Yeah, don’t laugh). This is amazing!

When I was younger, I thought working with the pottery wheel was fun and therapeutic. Since I no longer have a place near me to do pottery, I find Bible journaling to be a relaxing and creative outlet.

[Confession] I’m such a mom – I actually enjoy sitting at the kitchen table with the kids and doing Perler beads.
