True Gentleman Jerky Review and Giveaway
A funny thing has stated happening recently. My taste buds are not what they once where – let me explain further. The first thing that started happening was that I have noticed a spike in the increase of water I consume. I have never been a large water drinker, but Jason is, and it is starting rubbing off on me.
The second thing that has happened is that I can taste a pure food versus a food full of preservatives. Instead of the preservative laden snacks I used to eat, I have discovered that the preservative free food is much more flavorful. I have begun to learn the value of this quality where snack foods are concerned.
The quest for healthier snack foods was on my mind when I recently attended the Natural Expo West Show in Anaheim. I decided to attempt to focus my efforts when I was walking and came upon True Gentlemens Jerky. The thing that got my attention were the unique flavors that I had not seen before.
I received a bag of True Gentlemens Jerky’s 5 available gluten-free flavors including the following:
Original Peppered Beef Jerky: The flavor that started it all, and one taste and you know why. This peppered jerky has a rich and smoky flavor with notes the flavors of garlic and ground pepper with a touch of agave nectar to round out the taste. This was a good, solid jerky!
The Sinsa – Korean Flavored BBQ Beef Jerky: This is a spicy hot jerky, it made my eyes water. The spice is fast and furious and sudden. The word “Sinsa” is Korean for gentleman, so an appropriate name for the jerky. Despite the heat this is a very tasty and flavorful jerky that is best described as a sweet and tangy flavor.
Southern Gentleman – Honey Bourbon Brisket Beef Jerky: This was one of my favorite flavors being that it combined a sweet and savory element into a perfect flavor. This brisket was soaked in a Kentucky Bourbon (only Kentucky Bourbon) and has a sweet honey undercurrent in each piece.
Sweet & Heat – Thai Mango Curry Beef Jerky: This is one of the hottest jerky’s I have EVER had, and almost 40 minutes later I was still feeling the heat. This was amazingly hot, and even Jason noted its heat – and he is usually immune to the heat I usually find hot. The final flavor note is the mango which offers a nice finishing flavor.
The Sommelier – Blackberry Merlot Beef Jerky: Let me say that I am not a red wine fan (or white wine fan – safe to say not a wine fan at all) and I LOVED this jerky. The beef is soaked in Merlot from the Wine Country for 24 hours which results in a sweet and smooth jerky that has notes of berries and cloves.
True Gentlemen’s Jerky uses locally sourced beef and contains no nitrates, preservatives, or animal bi-products. The cattle’s beef are fed a 100% vegetarian diet and are not given any antibiotics or growth hormones. All of the flavors were easy to eat, mostly due to the use of the “french-fry” cut, which eliminates the need to rip or tear through a piece of meat. The pieces were the perfect combination of moist to easy in chewing, yet retaining that jerky toughness that is normally associated with beef jerky’s.
Also included with each bag of jerky is DENTAL FLOSS!! How genius is that? I loved that they thought ahead for consumers and added something that we all want after jerky, but is inconvenient many times.
Each of these jerky flavors are gluten-free marinated in a low-sodium soy sauce. The ingredients are not only fresh but are delivered directly to the manufacturer to ensure the freshest product possible. The bag is also resealable which keeps the product fresh up to 5 days (1 year if unopened). With a 1 year shelf life, you can stock up for trips or snacking.
If you are wanting a good jerky that leaves you wanting more than give this San Diego based jerky company a try! I know you will love it!
