whole-foods-muffin-mixesWhen i think of the the holidays, I think of a potluck style meal, where everybody brings their favorite side dish.

A couple of years ago I got over zealous and made over 7 different types of bread. I searched online, pinning boards and my bread recipe collection. I ended up making a couple of pumpkin bread’s, a couple of banana bread’s, a cranberry-apple bread, and a zucchini bread. The process was laborious and as one baked, another would be loaded into the oven.

Since that holiday, each time there is a potluck, I am the “official” bread baker of the family. With the added awareness of gluten sensitivities, my once simple bread making process has changed and I end up making 1/2 of the breads gluten-free.

With my bread making duties starting and the holidays approaching, I am looking for time-saving ways to create many loafs, minus the work. One way I have learned to save time is to purchase the “base” of the bread from Whole Note Food Company, and add the fresh fruits and vegetables to the mix prior to baking.

good-job-brainEver since I was a young girl I loved to ask questions, and one of my favorite books of all time was a question and answer book that covered every subject and topic. My favorite topic is “Pop Culture/Entertainment”, mostly due to the fact that I follow celebrity gossip.

Often times if friends or family have a pop culture related inquiry often times I am the one that they default to. When we watch movies, Jason will say “that actor who was in that other movie” and 9 times out of 10 I know the person or movie he is referring to. My specialty is late 1980’s, to the mid 2000’s.

When I received the book Good Job, Brain! Trivia, Quizzes and More From the Popular Pub Quiz Podcast by Karen Chu, Colin Felton, Dana Nelson and Chris Kohler for review I loved seeing a book based on pop culture trivia that I could answer.

This is a person who I had lost touch with for many years, and through the use of modern technology I was able to track down her email. While I had her email for a couple of days, I was hesitant to hitting the send button.

I finally decided to hit the send, and held my breath for her to reply. I had included my address in case she wanted to send me a mailed letter. The same day I heard from her I also received a physical card in the mail. Almost instantly I was filled with an excitement and could not wait to open this letter from a long-lost friend.

While the card was simple, the sentiment meant the world to me. With a simple card, the years between us melted away and a fresh start was beginning. newmans-sampler-packI have a confession, I get Christmas gifts for my pets. I generally wrap them and put them under the tree. When it is time to open the gifts, I let the cats sniff the gift and paw at it. Once it is time to open I pry the corner open and let them attack it. More often than not they are far more interested in the paper and the accompanying crinkle. While this provides my husband and myself a laugh, inevitably the cat walks away to ignore us.

Cats are notoriously ambivalent about everything including gifts, their surroundings and most of all – their humans. There is one time when I am able to get my cats entire attention is when I have dry or wet food. Paper Pumpkin – Wonderful Winterland – November 2016 Kit Review + Giveaway

There was something magical that with something as simple as an address, people can get trinkets and letters from loved ones. This was in the day before I knew about bills and thought the world was full of rainbows.

Now that I am adult, I accept that most of the mail I receive is bills, except for this time of year. This is the season of family updates, family photos and letters – I love this time of year!

When I received the November 2016 Paper Pumpkin kit “Wonderful Winterland”, the decision was made that these would be in the lineup for our 2016 Holiday cards.
