Kinnikinnick Donuts: Soft Donut and Pumpkin Spice Review and Giveaway

Kinnikinnick Soft Donuts and Pumpkin Spice DonutsI have high standards where donuts are concerned and I think I have good reason to feel this way. I happen to live in donut heaven – I literally live less than 2 blocks from one donut shop and less than 5 miles from another with to many to number in between. I know this does not sound like the reasoning I gave you, but these two donut shops happen to be the top two donut shops in North San Diego County.

My favorite donut of all time has to be a chocolate cream filled with a round puffed pastry. The chocolate plays off the cream and donut dough perfect. Jason is a little more of a traditionalist in that he likes the chocolate old-fashioned. The common thread is the chocolate on the donuts. During the holidays I love a good tasting pumpkin donut and if icing is included then I am a very happy donut consumer.

The production of pumpkin donuts does not generally begin until October and abruptly ends in late December. At least that is how it has been, until now –  Kinnikinnick Foods is proud to announce that their previously seasonal and regionally limited Pumpkin Spice donuts are now a permanent part of their product line and available year round. Also new to the Kinnikinnick Foods family is Soft Donuts with Vanilla Icing in addition to their existing Chocolate Donuts and Cinnamon Sugar Donuts.

I was sent a box of Pumpkin Spice Donuts and sent a box of the Soft Donuts with Vanilla Icing. It is recommended to store these in the freezer and when ready for consumption to heat them briefly in the microwave. The icing comes pre-placed on the Pumpkin Spice Donuts, but the Soft Donuts come plain to allow personal icing control. The donuts came out plump and were really tasty, and they were gluten-free. The Pumpkin Spice Donuts were a little heavier and a little more moist due to the icing being pre-applied. Despite being a little heavier and a little moister, these are really good donuts.

Donuts on a plateThese donuts are gluten-free, dairy free and nut free. The Soft Donuts are made with yeast which makes these softer then your typical gluten-free donut. The consistency is much closer to a cake and in less than 30 seconds the result is a soft cake like donut.

Here is a fun fact about Kinnikinnick Foods: They provide free gluten-free food to their employees as they do not allow gluten brought into the facility. This is a dedication to truly being gluten-free that I have yet to see – dedication like that deserves to be supported!

I would recommend giving these a try – I promise you will not eat just one and this may replace the year round cravings for pumpkin products.

My favourite place to get donuts is Tim Hortons but they don’t make my favourite anymore. My favourite was the blueberry fritter and the toasted coconut. Now I normally just get a double chocolate.

I am vegan and I live in a very rural area that does not even know the meaning of the word vegan, so I have to travel for my favorite donuts. One of my favorite places is in Jacksonville and my favorite donut is called Stretch Pants and has caramel and nuts and chocolate and is just delicious.

I read about the new donuts on another page, and may have squeed out loud. But I was a little skeptical and went looking around the web for more reviews. Seems they really are THAT good. I haven’t been able to get any in my area but oh I need to try these…

  24. Jess

To answer the question of what’s my favorite donut, I’m not sure how to answer that… do you mean pre or post celiac diagnosis?

Before, it was dunkin doughnuts. I love the krispy kreme original donuts, but the rest are too sweet (too much glazy!) for my taste.

Post celiac diagnosis, well, The Kinnikinnick were the only ones I could find! And they’re so good and easily available at my Publix, I hvaen’t bothered to find anything else…
