Spencerian Handwriting: The Complete Collection of Theory and Practical Workbooks for Perfect Cursive and Hand Lettering Review and Giveaway
When I was young I received numerous penmanship award’s. I was always told that my handwriting was exceptional and easy to read.
The reason that my handwriting was always on point was practice – a lot of practice. I would write the yearly holiday cards which helped the practice. I also wrote letter and papers for school whenever possible and I would sit and doodle for hours.
When I received the book Spencerian Handwriting: The Complete of Theory and Practical Workbook for Perfect Cursive and Hand Lettering by Platts Roger Spencer for review I saw this a perfect opportunity to improve my writing skills.

Spencerian Handwriting: The Complete of Theory and Practical Workbook for Perfect Cursive and Hand Lettering by Platts Roger Spencer is a workbook style book that will teach you the classic Spencerian method of writing.
The book starts with an introduction and an explanation of the importance of the position of letters, the movements of your hands, the spacing and even the shading. Each section is full of questions with the answers. There is complete explanation on how to form each of the 26 letters in capital and lowercase forms.
Spencerian Handwriting was the standard for all personal and business correspondence in the 1800’s. This style of penmanship teaches the principles needed with step-by-step lessons and including blank pages for practicing. The book is easy to follow and you get a real feel for the style of penmanship you are emulating.
As I use technology more I feel it is important to retain my handwriting skills, and to remember the beauty in a handwritten note. I like to know that I can practice and always make my writing better.

I think it is just as important. Though, I believe others do not think so due to computers doing the work for everyone.
I don’t think it’s as important niw as it was than
I think penmanship is as important as it was 20-30 years ago but I guess the schools don’t. Cursive writing is not even taught at my grandson’s school. So sad.
I think penmanship is very important. I don’t like that schools aren’t teaching it anymore!
I think penmanship is really important,Years a go I could read peoples handwriting but now it looks like a bunch of scribble to me.
I like handwriting better then printing. I think it looks nicer. I noticed that people don’t do cursive writing as much anymore.
Handwriting especially cursive writing is a necessity. Most schools don’t even teach students this art anymore which is sad.

it’s not as important but i feel like it should be. i know technology means we can text, but it’s like a lost art.
Yes I do, you will need to sign your name to documents and you will need to be able to read documents that have been rewritten before there were computers. It’s very important.
Very important to know cursive handwriting. I fully believe that when we write cursive, it comes from our heart to the paper. Think about the joy of seeing a person’s handwriting/signature on a card or letter long after they are gone. Think about how people would carry a loved one’s hand written letter next to their hearts if they were in battle or far away from home. Let’s face it, a typed message just doesn’t cut it.
No, because people mostly communicate through texting and computers.
It may not be as important as it was in the past but I still believe it is a necessity.
I do. Anyone can put an “X” on the dotted line, but penmanship is what separates us and shows our creative side and personality. And let’s face it: Most of would much rather receive a love letter in cursive than in block printing.
I think it’s very important because we physically write so much less and our brains are dying slowly from lack of use! So when we do write, we should make it count!
Yes, I think it’s important. Putting your thoughts on the computer screen is handy, but is ephemeral. Writing family stories and history in a real book/journal will be a treasured keepsake for future generations. Especially if the handwriting is beautiful!
I really do but I think society doesn’t. Very sad.
I do but I can’t believe that my daughter’s handwritting isn’t progressing as much as my had by her age (5th grade) and spelling isn’t really worked on. They definitely depend on electronics that does all this for you a lot!
Do you think penmanship is as important as it was 20-30 years ago? Why do you feel that way?
Of course not, it is becoming a lost art.
Duh, who writes with a pen or pencil anymore? With that said, I think it will be an art form that eventually will be revered again.
I do think it’s important. If you don’t at least learn it, how will you read the ‘foreign language’ documents that are written in cursive? Plus, it’s beautiful.
I don’t think penmanship is as important today because people frequently use computers and other electronic devices to communicate.
