Geek Fuel Monthly Subscription – July 2015 Review
By now it is well known that I live in a geek household. I live with a Role Playing Gamer (RPG’er) and I have to admit that I am starting to become one myself. This is almost become a seamless transition into the dark side. I am a light happy person so being in and on the dark side is a bit different for me.
In my initiation over to the dark side there has been a learning curve. You may wonder what the learning curve entails. I discovered that the learning curve includes things such as the difference between a MMORPG and FPS, open world vs. linear story, side scrollers vs. adventure games and why experience points matter. Learning all this has been a little rough but I am happy to say I am starting to get it.
Since this induction into the geek world I appreciate all things geek and there are few things that pack as much geek punch as the monthly subscription box from Geek Fuel. I received the July themed Geek Fuel box and as I have been in previous months, I was pleasantly surprised. Also the July box was advertised as an entirely exclusive month and came as advertised. Included in this months boxes was the following:
Exclusive Geek Fuel T-Shirt – $10.00 T-Shirt – ‘Le Tour Geek’: This is a take on the popular “Tour de France” and features 3 geeky characters including Harley Quinn, Link and Batman racing in their own “Tour de Geek”. This month 5 luck winners could have received a yellow “jersey’ in their box – DealsAmongUs did not receive a limited jersey.
Marvel #1 Issue – $4.99 : Secret Wars #01 – Civil War – this comes with a card board backing and with a certificate of authenticity. This has an exclusive variant cover and is recently published (only 2 weeks prior to packaging of the monthly box). The cover artist is Todd Nauck.
Mini-Pint Shot Glass – $5.00 : This is mini ant man which is timely and appropriate with the release of “Ant Man” in theaters.
BurnStar – $10.00: Burnstar Steam Game and Stars: This is this months included Steam game. Burnstar is a game in the action puzzle genre in which your goal is to burn everything by using explosives. This can be played alone or with a friend – the only downside is the game is for Windows only. Be warned this is a face paced game that uses your fingers and brain together for maximum challenge.
Shiny! Button – $ 4.00: This button has the FireFly logo on it that’s symbol translates to serenity. I would wear it in support of bringing the show back!
Aliens V.S. Vampirella Poster – $8.00: A new comic crossover featuring Vampirella as she takes on the Xenomorphs. This will go to work with Jason to adorn his work space. This new crossover will be available September 2, 2015 at comic stores and online.
Geek Fuel’s Monthly Subscription Service launched in December 2014 and is a monthly gaming/geek themed subscription box service. The box is mailed monthly, around the 20th, in a red box labeled with the Geek Fuel logo. Each box contains an exclusive t-shirt that you can only get from having a monthly box subscription as well as a Geeky Mini guide.
I have done Geek Fuel reviews in the past (click here) and love the delivery of monthly goodies. I find that each month I research the characters contained in the box and I end up learning and expanding my journey into the dark side.
Each box comes with a glossy post card that lists out the contents of the box, and each box comes neatly covered in a branded paper inside the box giving a sense of wonder as you unfurl the paper uncovering the contents.
Geek Fuel boxes are available in 4 different monthly options:
- 1 month/$17.60
- 3 months/$16.60
- 6 months/$15.60 + 1 free mystery item
- 12 months/$13.60 + 3 free mystery items
- The Mystery items included are a $20.00 value
- Each box costs a flat $6.00 that covers shipping and handling.
So as I continue down this dark path I realize I do not need a flashlight, I know the path ahead of me. I will be branded a geek and have random pieces of gamer knowledge that will bore my non-gamer buddies and that is fine by me. I am happy on this road I am traveling and will continue to see where the path leads me.
As a bonus the August box will have either WOLVERINE or SPIDERMAN item!
