I live in a city that has outlawed and banned the use of plastic bags. I am truly torn about this development as the plastic bags have their own use in a house with 2 cats but the environmental impact caused by these bags is hard to ignore. Being that I am in this plastic bag less town we have invested a good amount of money into different variation’s of the “recyclable/reusable” bag.

I recently was sent a 4 piece kit that helps add to our collection of recyclable bags. Colortime Crafts and Markers was generous enough to send me 1 “Recycle” tote bag and 3 fabric markers (Blue, Yellow and Green) for me to make my own bag. Colortime Crafts and Markers offers ready to color craft items as well as fabric markers.This allows kids and adults to decorate and personalize products themselves.

The bag measures about 18″ high and about 15.5″ wide and has a nice size handle that allows for over the shoulder or hand carrying.  I chose to use one color for each word and then color the earth in blue and green. The colors are vibrant with little effort and the markers do not have much a “bleed through” quality.

Colortime Crafts and Markers not only has totes available but t-shirts, backpacks, bandanas, head wraps and pillowcases. Available in addition to the recycle theme I received are Girl Scout themed colorable items (they are licensed with the Girls Scouts of America to sell branded product), girls and boys themes, holiday and religious patterns to color. They also have tye dye kits available. The prices range from $3.25 – $6.95 for the item to color and $2.35/each pen to $13.20 for a set of 6 markers.

The fabric pens are non-toxic, as well as water and chlorine resistant. Each color is a permanent pigment ink that dries instantly. There are many colors available and include black, red, yellow, fushia, purple, soft green, florescent yellow, mint, navy blue, orange, gray, hot pink, light blue, brown, dark green, goldenrod and beige. The pens write instantly therefore it is recommended,  if possible, to store the pens horizontally. All products are machine washable – the colors will not fade.

This would be a great activity at a kids party, a cute gift for party favors or for anyone who wants to color their own totes. I love my bag and plan to use enter it into the bag rotation for our next shopping trip.
