14,965 Days Later: Jennifer Turns 41 – A Couple Day’s in July
Each year I get older but the transition into my 40’s has been far more difficult than I originally anticipated.
I realized that shortly after I turned 40 last year, I became aware of my own mortality and that time on this planet is limited, it is special and one day can change your world.
To say that I was dreading my birthday this year would be an understatement. None the less, Jason took a couple of days off work and with the determination that is uniquely Jason he set out to give me an enjoyable, memorable and fun couple days.
The first day we woke up, and Jason looked at me and asked what I wanted to do! I decided to make a coastal stop at the Sun Bum Concept Store (see that adventure here) and then we decided to get a Starbucks!
After we were adequately hydrated we took a drive down the coast to Seaside Market in Cardiff to get a sammie for lunch, and to walk around in an air conditioned location.
While cruising the veggie isle I saw that we could make our own orange juice, so of course I did!
After almost 2 hours, we made it through. If you are ever in the Cardiff area, make a stop at Seaside and pick up the Cardiff Crack (a marinated Tri-Tip).
We ended our afternoon with a stop at the beach for a photo.
We headed home, tired and full of new groceries to sample at home. The next day we had a lunch and a dinner scheduled with our parents.
The next morning we woke up and went to the pizza place next door to Seaside Market to meet my in-laws. We had a wonderful lunch with them at a restaurant called Best Pizza and Brew, and 2 pizza’s later we were full. For my birthday they gave me a gift card to Joanns Crafts so, we headed up there since we were had a couple of hours until dinner with my father.
For dinner with my father we went down to Del Mar and had a wonderful steak dinner at Red Tractons Steakhouse. Another recommendation if you are ever in the Del Mar area of San Diego.
So after 2 very full days, my birthday was complete! This is me, at 41 and happy.
I realized that i might be marching closer to mid-life, but I have so much ahead of me, including love and a wonderful husband and 2 cats.
How do you celebrate your birthdays? Do they last multiple days? Tell me below!

Each day is a gift. I am older than you by a bit.. I can look back at 40 🙂
Aww I have learned that age is just numerical! I feel like I am in my mid 20’s still, as does Jason.
You are right, each day is a gift meant to be treasured and appreciated!
Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a wonderful few days! My birthday is this month and I would like to have a fun time like you did too!
Thank you so much Maryann!
My husband knows that as I get older the birthdays are harder on me so he tries to make them relaxing and fun!
The place we went to dinner with my father is one of my favorite places in San Diego, and always a treat when I get to go there!
Happy Birthday to you, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Thank you!!
Ahh. Happy late Birthday! Looks like you had a lot of fun! To be honest, at 25, I don’t even care to celebrate my birthday anymore. To me, it’s just another day… though, I wish it wasn’t.
Glad to see you went and did things and had fun on your birthday. 🙂
Thank you! It was fun!
Looks like an incredible two days were had!!! We don’t hardly celebrate birthdays at our house, excepting Gabe.. (Being a kid totally has its perks!!) You’re making me want to get out to the west coast SOOO badly!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
