As much as I love review blogging there is another thing I love to do – write and send cards to loved ones.
I believe that the art of handwriting is slowly being eliminated from the skills people hold. Instead of being able to do clean brush lettering, people strive to have the most words typed from their smart phones.
Each year I write cards and notes, and each year I strive to make my handwriting better. I am always looking for books and step-by-step instructions to extend those skills. When I recently I received a copy of Brush Pen Lettering: A Step-by-Step Workbook for Learning Decorative Scripts and Creating Inspired Styles by Grace Song for review I was excited to perfect my abilities for future cards.

Brush Pen Lettering: A Step-by-Step Workbook for Learning Decorative Scripts and Creating Inspired Styles by Grace Song features over step-by-step instructions about different ways to create scripts and writing styles.
Throughout the book is full color pictures to accompany the written directions, which would be immense help if you need visual confirmation while working on the new lettering technique.
The one type of handwriting I have been yet to do is calligraphy and this books takes the basic steps and teaches you brush lettering. Also the book is teaching you to understand the different types of brush pens that are made from natural hair, synthetic hair, or felt. It also provides technical details with illustrations for basic strokes and letter combinations.
As the saying goes, practice makes perfect and this book is no different, the more practice using these techniques the better you become. I have a habit of pressing down on whatever pen I chose and there is a section on using pressure to make the letters bolder, fine and medium.
The Brush Pen Lettering: A Step-by-Step Workbook for Learning Decorative Scripts and Creating Inspired Styles by Grace Song is a comprehensive and complete guide and this would be a great book to learn. I would recommend this book for any person who are looking to add the art of brush lettering to their repertoire of skills.

I prefer to write an email but I do send birthday cards thru the mail to my family.
I enjoy paper products so much that I enjoy sending a hand written note card to friends and family. I certainly enjoy receiving a hand written note. But it has gotten less and less that it happens.
I would send more hand-written notes if I could learn beautiful, swirly lettering like this! Hand-written notes are so much more personal.

It depends who I am writing to and why. If it’s a close friend or family member and it’s personal I hand write. If it’s just an FYI or similar I’ll send an email.
For birthdays and christmas I send a written card. Otherwise it’s an email.y
I do send emails, but I really prefer to write a note. I still tell my children to write notes.

I love handwritting letters. I write ofter to my boyfriend who lieves far from me. I agree with you, my handwritting is terrible, I often try to practice to improve even a little because to me is a little embaracing writting with my ugly handwritting lol.
I prefer hand written mail, and love to draw and play with calligraphy.
I hand write personal notes, but send business or other official/government email.
My right hand was injured in a car accident. I had all of the physical therapy that could benefit me, but it’s painful to write and my handwriting isn’t nice anymore. I prefer a note, but now I type them up and print them out.
