Steampunk Ocean Coloring Book Review

Steampunk Ocean: A Nautical Adult Coloring Book Device Review and Giveaway

Steampunk Ocean Adult Coloring BookOver the past 20 years there has been an artistic movement that combines clockwork, and industrial images and combines them with mainstream concepts and images to create a new genre of art. The formal definition of steam punk is more a genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery and not advanced technology.

I became familiar with this movement when I noticed that some of the games Jason played did not have the typical video game look. About 2 months after this discovery a makeover show was on that was redoing a bar into a steampunk theme. I was fascinated and loved the industrial twist on a modern locale.

When I received a copy of Steampunk Ocean: A Nautical Adult Coloring Book Device by Bonnita Moaby for review my mind began thinking in copper and metallic colors. The new coloring book Steampunk Ocean: A Nautical Adult Coloring Book Device by Bonnita Moaby contains 30 images to color that range from jellyfish, boats and even ocean creatures. Each page is filled with a personal journey into a steam punk filled ocean.

Steampunk Ocean PatternsThe designs throughout this book are going to be more on the specific and fine lined end of coloring, and the lines thickness varies depending on the picture and range from thin to very thin lines. The book, unfortunately, does not lie flat but you are able to crack the binding which will then assist in create a flat surface in which you can color.

As I always believe it is important to note that the book’s pages are glued to the binding like a traditional book, making tearing the picture out a little more difficult. My recommendation is to take care when tearing or removing the page or use a cutting device to get the page out. There is a little space around each photo to cut a border out if you decide to frame your own art piece.

Steampunk ScrewdriversNow for my usual recommendation and as I do with many other coloring books that I review, I recommend a piece of paper under the page you are coloring when using pens to avoid bleeding through to other pages. I wanted to give these images an industrial feel so I chose to use gel pens to color the images. Despite using gel pens, I had NO transfer through the page and the images dried clean. Take care if you use gel pens, I accidentally smudged my image because I thought it was drier then it was.

Coloring books allow us to create the world we wish to live it, and this book is a journey into a world that few of us will venture into, short of a single step when coloring.

Love it! Though all the layering is tough in the hot weather in Texas.

Steampunk is awesome! It’s so interesting to look at – a coloring book with that theme is a great idea. 🙂
