Petstages: Mix & Scratch – Channel Scratcher Review & Giveaway
Our cats are indoor cats, and as far as we can tell they are happy with this decision that we have made for them.
The reason that we made this decision was as selfish for ourselves as it was selfish for them. When we adopted them we debated making them indoor/outdoor cats, but since we live on a major road, if they happen to make their way out it could end deadly for them. For this reason, and about a million more, they are now happy indoor house cats. Since they live their life in the confines of our home it is important to both of us that we give them the most stimulating and full life humanly possible.
Back when I first started reviewing cat toys I came across a company called Petstages that has a complete line of toys for cats (and dogs). The thing that we loved about these toys is that they stimulate the cats mind, as well as their reward system that keeps them hunting and playing, all while providing exercise in a safe environment that we control.
The products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge courtesy of Petstages/Outward Hound. This post may have affiliate links but this in no way will influence the review to follow and all opinions are my own.
I received a Mix & Scratch Channel Scratcher by Petstages which is a piece of the 4 piece set that completes the this quad puzzle toy.
Instinctively, despite the fact that they are indoor cats, they are still predators, and still like to keep their claws at the ready. Maggee and Murfee are big fans of places to scratch. We have a post that they can stretch long ways on, and we have a couple of floor cardboard based scratchers, that prove popular and at times messy.
When I recently received a Petstages Mix & Scratch Channel Scratcher the first thing I noticed was not only the puzzle shape, which is because it is 1 of a set of 4 that creates a quad of different scratching surfaces.
The second, and possibly most prominent detail were the alternating scratch surfaces. There is an alternation of cardboard and sand paper on one side and solid corrugated cardboard on the second side. This scratcher is blasted with catnip, which makes this appealing for catnip loving cats.
When you purchase all 4 pieces of this “puzzle” you end up with 4 very different ways for your cats to scratch and play. Of the available pieces there is a circle piece with a toy in the middle to give your cat a scratcher and a hunting toy, there is are other individual circles in which you can put a vertical post inside them, as well as an alternating hill scratcher in addition to the sandpaper/cardboard combo scratcher puzzle piece I received.
I was really surprised that it was Maggee who claimed this since she is usually a vertical scratcher, and Murfee is our ground dweller scratcher. Once Maggee claimed this, poor Murfee did not have much of a chance to do more than sniff it. I am hoping he is brave one day and takes it over from his bully of a sister.
I plan on purchasing the other 3 pieces of this scratching puzzle, and am confident that it will give at least one cat hours of entertainment. If you are wanting a different scratcher that will keep your cat interested, and engaged then I highly recommend getting a Petstages Mix & Scratch Channel Scratcher for your cat or cats!
