Geek Fuel Monthly Subscription – June 2015 Review
I graduated high school in 1994 and that puts my late teen/adolescent years spent in the early 1990’s. I am most definitely a child of the 90’s – I loved baby doll dresses, I enjoyed the rising popularity of boy bands and I loved the television and media of this bygone era.
The 1990’s were notable in the media with books being turned into movies, such as Jurassic Park and the rise of the side scrolling platformer games. The Teenage Mutant Turtles were popular as were the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The X-files was on television and the we saw the rise of child themed cartoons with a definite adult theme (think Beavis and Butthead).
I mention all these icons of this era because what is old is new again. Amazingly after almost 20-25 years these legends of the 90’s are returning with a 2015 twist. The special effects driven highly anticipated Jurassic World is now in theaters, the Teenage Mutant Turtles can also be found in theaters. There has been confirmation that X-Files with Moulder and Scully is returning promising to be filled on their past 20 years.
Geek Fuel’s Monthly Subscription Service launched in December 2014 and is a monthly gaming/geek themed subscription box service. The box is mailed monthly, around the 20th, in a red box labeled with the Geek Fuel logo. Each box contains a t-shirt that you can only get from having a monthly box subscription.
I have done Geek Fuel reviews in the past (click here) and really love the monthly delivery of memories of my youth. This months box was just as packed full of 1990’s themed Geeky Goodness. Included in this months box was the following:
Exclusive Geek Fuel T-Shirt – $10.00: Each month included is a limited t-shirt that only members of Geek Fuel receive. The Truth is Out There was this months shirt. This was a green shirt featuring Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, that is a nice ode to the show that taught us that “the truth is out there”.
The Complete Series of Jurassic Park – $ 11.27 : This months box included 2 full novels, Jurassic Park the and Jurassic World – the Complete Series! I have seen the movies but have not read the books and honestly I am looking forward to warm day on the porch to read.
Finish It!! Book Mark – This is a great addition to the box and the books included. This bookmark is a constant reminder to go ahead and “finish it”!
Mighty Morphin Magnet – We received the red magnet. There were 5 Power Rangers in yellow, blue, red, pink and black. Each box included one color magnet with each having different odds of it being included: yellow 1/100, blue 3/10, red 8/10, pink 6/10 and black 1/10.
Super Win the Game – $10.00: This 8 bit game is The Legend of Zelda meets Super Mario Brothers and a traditional side scrolling game. I was a big fan of the original Zelda games and Mario games so this was a nice throw back to those days!
90’s Mutant Hero Oooze – This is a replica of the ooze we all remember as a child. I remember they made versions of these for Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and really anytime “radioactive” ooze was needed. This is packaged for Geek Fuel and I can honestly report that it oozes well.
Each box comes with a glossy post card that lists out the contents of the box, and each box comes neatly in a tissue covered box with a sticker attaching the tissue at the top, giving the feeling of up-wrapping a gift each month. I can honestly say I look forward each month to my Geek filled box!
Geek Fuel boxes are available in 4 different monthly options:
- 1 month/$17.60
- 3 months/$16.60
- 6 months/$15.60 + 1 free mystery item
- 12 months/$13.60 + 3 free mystery items
- The Mystery items included are a $20.00 value
- Each box costs a flat $6.00 that covers shipping and handling.
I am proud of growing up in the 1990’s and I love all the items of my youth. I turn 40 in a week and this month’s Geek Fuel June box was so wonderfully nostalgic for me when I need a good reminder of my youth! I would recommend the Geek Fuel box to geek and non-geeks a like. We all lived through the 90’s together we can do this together.
