While the years scariest day is about 10 months away, it is nice to have a reminder of the mystical and magical throughout the year. I have discovered that there is no better way to dream and imagine, then when you are coloring.

One of my favorite things to color is unique and different images that inspire me to think and to imagine a different world. When I received the Dark Skies: A Grayscale Adult Coloring Book by Blue Star Coloring it made me think of the different and unusual images in the world.

Dark Skies: A Grayscale Adult Coloring Book by Blue Star Coloring is a celestially inspired book that contains depictions of Greek and Roman Gods, Goddesses and mythical creatures, to name a few.

Dark Skies is a grayscale coloring book in that the shading is done for you. The dark shadowing make the figures appear even more monstrous and add depth and dimension to the illustrations. I was not sure how much coloring space there would be since this is a grayscale coloring book. The images of beasts born from constellations and zodiac-influenced designs leave a lot of room for the coloring.

While this book, does not lie flat, it does not affect the function of the book. If you open the book wide and press down on the interior spine you will be able to crack the binding. Otherwise the book will not stay open on it’s own and a weight on the non coloring side would be helpful. This is not a reason to bot get the book and honestly the worst that happens is that it makes coloring a little more challenging. and this in no way affects the book.

If you want to remove the pages please note that the book is bound similar to traditional books, so take care when removing the pages. I give you my typical recommendation, which is to be cautious when tearing or removing the page or use a cutting device such as scissors or a craft knife to get the page out since the images are close to the edges. Many of the pages cut close to the binding so take extra care when removing pages.

I would recommend placing a piece of paper under the page to be colored to avoid bleeding through to other pages. This also will assist in the prevention of creating impressions on the following pages from pressing down to hard – which I am guilty of.

In the end, I really enjoyed this grayscale book, it was the first time I had ever had the shading done for me and I plan to seek out additional grayscale coloring books. If you want a book that is guaranteed to spark your imagination – this is the one for you!
