The Botanical Hand-Lettering Workbook Review and Giveaway
I love my hand-writing and especially my cursive writing. I am very lucky in that I can write in a straight line, despite not having any lines. I have always found this to be a priceless talent when I am creating or addressing cards. I have mentioned in the past that I believe the art of hand-writing is become a lost art in this world of gaming, chatting and geo-tagging. If we do not practice and renew our education in this art, we will lose it forever.
I am always looking for books that will help me expand upon my knowledge of hand-writing and different techniques. I love the ability of integrating floral motifs to the design, being able to combine cursive and hand-writing while looking fluid, and anything else that can liven up an otherwise boring envelope.
I recently received the new book by Bethany Robertson entitled “The Botanical Hand-Lettering Workbook: Draw Whimsical & Decorative Styles and Scripts“.
The Botanical Hand-Lettering Workbook: Draw Whimsical & Decorative Styles and Scripts is detailed and contains instructions that are simple to follow. The book starts with the traditional introduction, which explains the motivations behind creating a book like this. The book then proceeds into chapters that teach you the techniques used. The chapters are wide-ranging and vary from Flowers & Terrariums, Combining Styles, Embellishments & Borders, and how to use the Positive and Negative Spaces.
I love that this book also shows how to draw Fruits and Veggies, which add a cute element to anything that you use hand-writing on. This book is over 185 pages of space to learn, write and practice what is illustrated in the book. While this book is available on Kindle, I would recommend a hard copy due to the doodle nature of this book and the workbook style.
If you are looking for a book to provide inspiration to your otherwise plainly written letters and envelopes this is book for you! I loved practicing and creating the styles in this book, and while I am not perfect, my lettering my soon be!
