American Gluten-Free Discovery Box – July 2016 Review and Giveaway
When I was a child my father made his living by running a small business as did many of my friends parents. Now as a an adult I see the importance and the where-with-all it takes to run a small business. I particularly admire small businesses that rely on other small businesses to make the wheels of their business run.
Let’s be honest, the small businesses of the world make the world of commerce go around. A company that takes this concept and runs with it American Gluten-Free. Each month American Gluten-Free sends subscribers 7 to 9 items, mostly full size products to sample. The owner scours the whole country for small gluten-free businesses that have amazing food to offer.
Always interested in seeing the offerings in monthly subscription boxes, and I was super excited to review American Gluten-Free’s Discovery Box.
The products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge courtesy of American Gluten-Free. This post may have affiliate links but this in no way will influence the review to follow and all opinions are my own.
The following is what i received in the July 2016 Discovery Box:
Natural Decadence – Graham Crackers: I am a fan of graham crackers. I used to love the cinnamon flavors so I was excited to see grahams in this box. These are gluten-free, egg-free, nut-free and dairy-free.
Chic-A-Peas – Sweet BBQ Chickpeas: I have had little taste tests with chick peas and I was pleasantly surprised how tasty these were. These had a sweet BBQ flavor and would make a good salad addition or even ground up as a coating for chicken.
Cucina and Amore – Artichoke Roasted Piquillo Quinoa Meal: This is a meal in a package – which are perfect for a quick-lunch for a busy blogger. This comes fully cooked and read to eat. I plan to have this for lunch on a busy day.
Artisana Organics – Cashew Butter Squeeze Pouch: I had never taste cashew butter before and I loved it’s creamy texture and mild flavor. I only recently discovered that I like cashews so I loved the opportunity to sample a butter version.
You Love Fruit – Tart Peach Fruit Leather: When I was young I loved the fruit rolls. I used to grab a couple and take them into my room with me while I was doing homework – then as I grew, they disappeared. Jason and I have been on the search for them for a while now, and are happy to learn that there are healthier alternatives available now that are made from real fruit. I am a lover of peach and these did not disappoint.
Mediterranean Organics – Green Olives: I did not know what to expect when I opened the package, but once I opened it I should have expected what I saw. I am not a fan of green olives, and unfortunately neither is Jason. Luckily for me, a neighbor was walking by so I offered her an olive – she liked them and inquired where I managed to find these – WIN!
Taza Chocolate – Raspberry Nib Crunch Bar: This is a simple dark chocolate, which I thought would be a home run, but it was more like a run to 3rd base. The chocolate was a little more powdery than I would have thought it would be, but the raspberry flavor was prominent and added to the flavor. I put this in the freezer (doesnt everyone freeze their chocolate?) and that helped the powdery taste. This was a little on the richer side, so I am happy it is broken into bars making for easy division of pieces.
Dang – Coconut Chips: This is not my first rodeo with these brand of chips – I have had them in other boxes and at a couple expos. I have never particularly been a fan of coconut so while crunch and crispness was there, the overall flavor was not for me. That being said, if I liked coconut these would have been a hit! I ended up giving these to the same neighbor who I shared the olives with and made her day – these are her favorite chips! Hours later she texted me to thank me!
One of my favorite things to review are monthly subscription boxes and this was no different. If you are looking for a box that not only introduces you to new products but also the small businesses making the items. This is a company that is keeping the wheels of small business alive and squeaking – get a box – you will not be disappointed.
