I am a child of the 70’s – the mid 70’s. What this means is that I was dressed in what is arguable the ugliest fabric patterns. When I began school it was the dawn of the 1980’s and it was still not the best patterns. By the late 80’s the fabrics became more palatable to the eyes. Now that we are in the zero teens the fabrics are circling back to those patterns of the 70’s. The one constant in all times and all patterns are paisleys.

Paisleys are timeless almost because they are a reflection of the times and the popular colors. Paisleys are of a Persian origin and are made of droplet-shaped motif. It is named for a town in Scotland where the paisley fabric originates from. Oddly enough Paisley became identified with psychedelic style due to a resurgence in the pattern’s mainstream popularity leading up the mid and late 1960s.

When I received a copy of Adult Coloring Book: Stress Relieving Paisley Patterns by Blue Star Coloring I was transported to a different time.

Adult Coloring Book: Stress Relieving Paisley Patterns by Blue Star Coloring contains 38 different images that range in complexity gradually and progresses from beginner to expert-level difficulty. This coloring book has paisleys of every size and tear drop shaped.

While this book, does not lie flat, it does not affect the function of the book. If you open the book wide and press down on the interior spine you will be able to crack the binding. Otherwise the book will not stay open on it’s own and a weight on the non coloring side would be helpful. This is not a reason to not get the book and honestly the worst that happens is that it makes coloring a little more challenging. and this in no way affects the book.

If you want to remove the pages please note that the book is bound similar to traditional books, so take care when removing the pages. I use my typical recommendation which is to be cautious when tearing or removing the page or use a cutting device such as scissors or a craft knife to get the page out since the images are close to the edges. Many of the pages cut close to the binding so take extra care when removing pages.

I would recommend placing a piece of paper under the page to be colored to avoid bleeding through to other pages. This also will assist in the prevention of creating impressions on the following pages from pressing down to hard – which I am guilty of.

I loved each paisley and each pattern reminded me of something I would have seen in the psychedelic 60’s. If you are looking for a coloring book that will give you a ton of variety in what to color — go get this book!
