Canyon Bakehouse Bagel and Brownie – Review and Giveaway
I have mentioned in the past my affinity towards bread and bread products. My love of bread extends to toasted breads, sugared and cream cheese covered breads and chocolate breads. I think the bottom line and common thread is that I love bread.
In March I had the opportunity to review Canyon Bakehouse’s breads (see review here) and loved them. I recently received an email that was announcing that Canyon Bakehouse was launching 3 new products: Plain Bagels, Everything Bagels and Brownie Bites. I was beyond excited that Canyon Bakehouse was releasing more products as I really enjoyed the items I reviewed in March.
Now Jason does not quite share my affinity towards bread. That is not to say that he is not a bread fan, just not a 1/2 loaf in one sitting kinda bread fan. Despite his not so passionate love of bread he even enjoyed these new gluten-free offering’s from Canyon Bakehouse which included Plain Bagels, Everything Bagels and Brownie Bites.
Everything Bagels – I could literally smell these bagels when the box was delivered and the smell intensified when I opened the box. The first smell I could place in my directory of smells was the onion with a touch of garlic. These bagels came with poppy seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds. We made a special trip to the store for cream cheese to have with these and I can honestly tell you it was worth the 3 mile trip.
Brownie Bites – Jason and I have learned to cook more and more, and learning how to take store-bought items and kick them up a couple notches. These provided a great opportunity to do a little experimenting. We decided to make our own frosting for these delicious and moist brownie bites. I have many cake type decorating supplies, so we also gave them a little yellow and blue color for fun to top them off.
Plain Bagels – First thing I have to say was that these were so good! We decided to make these more of a dessert bagel. We toasted the bagel, smeared it with butter and then with a simple 2/1 ratio of sugar to cinnamon made a sweet topping for an open faced cinnamon sugar bagel. It was just as good as you would imagine it would be, as it is also a rare treat due to the sugar intake involved. These bagels would be just as good with cream cheese.
These new products offer:
- 100 percent whole grains with real food ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil, organic agave and eggs.
- No artificial additives and fillers.
- Certified Gluten-Free and do not contain dairy, soy or nuts.
- No GMOs.
I had high hopes for these products given the fact of the success of my earlier tasting of Canyon Bakehouse, and these met and exceeded my expectations. If I had one complaint it would be that they are a little more on the bread end then the bagel end in terms of texture and chew. Gluten filled bagels tend to be a bit chewier as bread tends to be a little more limited in chewing needs.
I would recommend these to anybody – medically required gluten-free followers as well as people looking just to cut gluten from their diets. These are making the grocery list in this house – we need a nice bread for our sandwich lunches. As gluten-free becomes a more common word in the worlds lexicon it will become harder and harder to tell the difference between gluten and non gluten products. I am happy to say that we are quickly approaching that time in history and I am so excited to be able to sample these innovators in the gluten-free industry.
The suggested retail price of the Bagels and Brownie Bites is $5.49-$6.49, and to find a store near you, click here.
