SunButter: Smooth and Chunky Sunflower Butter Review and Giveaway
Sunflowers are my favorite flower. I have been a fan of sunflowers since my mid 20’s. The problem is that I have a hard time purchasing these flowers because as beautiful as they are they do die, and once that process starts they lose what makes them unique. To solve this problem I have invested in silk sunflowers and filled my home with sunflower art.
Recently I was researching and learning about my favorite flower, and learned that the seeds can be used – which, since I am a fan of reducing, reusing and recycling, made me happy. I was lucky to be able to recently attend the Gluten Free & Allergen Friendly Expo in San Diego as well as The Natural Products Expo in Anaheim. At each of these shows I was lucky to be able, to not only speak with company representatives, but also sample SunButter Sunflower Spreads. When I reached out to SunButter they sent me a SunButter Crunch Sunflower Spread and SunButter Creamy Sunflower Spread. to sample and review.
As both Jason and I have gotten older we have found that we like healthier snacks. One of our favorites is sliced apples with peanut butter. Since I had recently received these two jars I decided that we would use the SunButter Spread on our favorite snack.
The first flavor I tried was the Chunk, and while it was different from the peanut butter I used, I noticed that the flavor was a little grittier but an overall good alternative. The second one I tried was the Smooth, and while that was also a little grittier it was a good replacement. I did notice that I had to stir the Chunk, and even after stirring it was still a little on the “wet” side. I was cautious if this “wetness” would make bread soggy and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it did not. I kept a napkin under the spread and jelly sandwich I made, but if you have a plate it should work fine.

Each Kosher 16 oz jar is “Top 8 Allergen Free” which means that it is free of the top 8 most common food allergens including peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, fish, shellfish and soy. It is also free of flax seed and is also Vegan.

Since sunflowers are literally my favorite flower, I am thrilled that they have additional uses other than just for beauty and a tasty spread can be used with the parts. If you have nut allergies or any other allergies that preclude you to consuming peanut butter this is a great alternative.

I love Sunbutter!! I’m allergic to nuts, so this was such a fun alternative when I discovered them several years ago. Growing up as a kid, I always wondered what it would be like to have a PB & J, etc, so its fun to try those common Peanut Butter combos with Sunbutter! I’ve never tried the chunky, though, so that would be interesting. The local grocery stores don’t carry Sunbutter, sadly. :c/

We love it, it is so addictive. Great in cookies, granola, on toast or well, any way you like it. Way better than peanut butter, imo.
