Hawaii Snack Box Subscription Review and Giveaway – July 2015

I live in what many people consider paradise. I live only 1/4 mile from a popular beach that is frequented by surfers, celebrities and everyone else. Not only am I a 1/4 mile away but I am sandwiched between some of the best coastline anywhere in California.
There is one place that beats this paradise I have in favor of more expansive coast lines (750 miles to be exact). There is a place where the same smattering of surfers, celebrities and everyone else gather. The place I speak of was the site if of a horrific military action, but instead of sadness is filled with hope, history and love. If you have not figured out this picturesque place I speak of, it is Hawaii.
I have wanted to visit Hawaii for as long as I remember (I want to see Pearl Harbor) and have seen friends have multiple visits while I am wishing for my one. I may not be able to travel there physically but I can get the flavors of Hawaii delivered to me on my coastline each month. This is where Hawaii Snack Box comes in. Each month Hawaii Snack Box includes 5-7 snacks in their subscription boxes. I was sent the July 2015 box for review and included in the box was the following:
Lions Coffee Toasted Coconut Coffee – When I think of Hawaii and islands my 1st thought is usually coconut. This coffee is made in Hawaii and with each sip the taste of coconut is obvious and prevalent. We love making coffee and the wonderful way that it makes our home smell.
Sashelly Inspirations Da Best Furikake Chex Mix Eva – I was unfamiliar with Furikake before this. For those not in the know, Furikake is made from dried and ground fish, sesame seeds, chopped seaweed, sugar, salt and MSG (Montesodium Glutimate). This brightly colored and flaky seasoning is used on all sorts of things including Chex Mix. This was a different and unique taste that made me feel like I was trying something from a new place, similar to when you travel.
Island Princess Maui Onion Macadamia Nuts – This was my first experience with Macadamia nuts. I loved the nuts but the seasoning (Maui Onion) was a little strong. Macadamia Nuts are one of Hawaii’s Big Islands largest crops, and are plentiful on the Island. Macadamia Nuts are as versatile as they are tasty coming in different flavors including black pepper, butter, garlic and herb, honey mustard and chocolate covered.
Ego Lychee Hard Candy – This candy is originally from Asia and takes the taste and ripeness of the Lychee fruit into a small candy. The fruit grows all over Hawaii on large trees that fruit faithfully and plentiful each year. The flavor was not my favorite, but that also could be because I have no point of comparison as I have never tried the Lychee fruit before.
Asia Trans Li Hing Mui Rainbow Belts – The first thing I noticed about these candy belts was the color, mostly due to me loving color. They were not in one cohesive strip but pieces that ranged in size from 2″ to 5″ inches. The taste on the onset was sweet, followed by sour and then a fruity taste. The ribbons were a little on the tough side and I did swallow some whole with a lack of chewing.
Included in each box is a postcard “manifest” that lists the items contained in the box and a “Culture Card” that gave a little historical information about the Hawaiian flag. On the reverse side of each card is the social media information for Hawaii Snack Box.
I am not sure when I will be traveling to the Islands, and until I do the Hawaii Snack Box is a great way to get a piece of a adventure all the while having my own “staycation”.
Monthly subscriptions are $19.95/month – pay as you go, $18.95/month – 3 month membership, $17.95/month – 6 month membership, $16.95/month – 12 months membership and shipping is included in the cost each month for United States recipients. For Canadians add $5.99 per box for shipping and for everywhere else add $13.99 to the cost of the monthly box.
