Gaslamp Popcorn – Holiday Themed Popcorn Balls DIY

Gaslamp Popcorn – Holiday Themed Popcorn Balls DIY + Giveaway

kettle-corn-popcornEach year when the holidays roll around, I always talk about making a popcorn themed craft project to share with my family and friends during the holidays.

There is something simple and delicious about popcorn balls, and nothing says the holidays are nearing as when the popcorn supply increases in our lives.

Gaslamp Popcorn was generous to send me a couple of bags to create some popcorn balls.

The products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge courtesy of Gaslamp Popcorn/RMD Advertising.

Gaslamp Popcorn sent me a bag of Sea Salt & Olive Oil and Kettle Corn to use to create my popcorn balls.

popcorn-ball-suppliesI started by looking up a simple recipe that would require little room for error. The ingredients used were vanilla extract, butter, corn syrup, sugar, marshmallow fluff, red and green food dye.

sugar-and-corn-syrupThe base was simple melt together of corn syrup, butter and sugar, and boiling them down together. Once this was melted I removed it from the heat and added the vanilla extract and marshmallow fluff.

green-balls-of-popcornOnce it was all melted I added the food dye until I reached the color shade I was pleased with and added the popcorn. Once melted I mixed in half the bag of Kettle Corn into the mixture with the spoon. I used some remaining butter to grab a hunk of mix and I shaped it into a holiday themed cookie cutter (be sure to use butter on the cutters so the popcorn removes easily.

green-popcorn-ball-on-stickOnce I shaped the popcorn into the shapes I wanted, I then formed balls. I used candy sticks to makes these into “popcorn pops”. These took about an hour to do when all was said and done.

Gaslamp’s Popcorn was started in the historic Gaslamp District in San Diego and while they are no longer based in San Diego, their name is a reminder of their start. Each of Gaslamp’s Popcorn is Non-GMO, while remaining gluten-free.

The only thing I have ever made with popcorn is to string it for the Christmas tree.

  3. Sherry Conrad

We have strung them with cranberries for an outdoor tree for the birds, and also made orange quarter/peanut butter/seed ornaments. A few little yarn ribbons and scraps of materiel and the birds LOVED it.

I have not made crafts with popcorn. Closest i have come is stinging popcorn to put on Christmas tree.

I think the only thing I have ever crafted with popcorn was a garland for Christmas.

Popcorn is always a real treat…..the fact that you put a different flavor/addition makes eating it more exciting.

We made popcorn garlands to go around the Christmas tree when I was young and we used popcorn in school projects when my kids were young.
