Smart Art April BoxSmart Art Monthly Subscription Review – April Box

I am a crafty person and I enjoy DIY’s and creating something out of a bunch of materials. The concept that a piece of clay can become a sculpture, paint and canvas can become a priceless work of art and a simple block can become a 3 dimensional figurine inspires me to create each day.

When I began my eventual love of crafts I had little to no direction of what craft I wanted to become proficient in. Back then I had no choice but to take $50.00 to the local craft store and walk the isles in hopes that something new and different would jump out at me. This happen a couple of times but not nearly enough to make me feel like I was always learning something new. Flash forward 25 years later and the introduction of monthly subscription boxes and Smart Art.

Smart Art is a monthly subscription box that each month introduces the artist to a new art medium. Each month Smart Art send the artist between 8-11 trial/full size products as well as including tips and project ideas. Smart Art was kind enough to send us the April box to review.

Corafoam from Smart Art April boxCorafoam –  Unknown Amount: This is a high density urethane foam that is carvable, can be sculpted and can be painted. Included in this box were 2 pieces that measured 8x4x1. The best way I can describe this material is that it a much denser of the green foam used in floral decoration.

ULine Utility KnifeUline Comfort Grip Utility Knife – $3.99 : I have to admit I was excited to see this item in the box as I had wanted a good quality utility knife. This knife has a soft and comfortable handle and has a retractable blade.

Sandpaper 3M3M Sandpaper – Unknown Amount : There were 2 sheets included were about 5×8 and included medium and extra fine grits. The medium is good for getting the texture you are looking for and the extra fine will finish the project off before painting.

Wood and Lino Carving ToolsWood and Lino Carving Tools – Unknown Amount : This package included 6 tools and includes a v gouge, u gouge as well as flat and rounded gouges.

Canvas Pop Card – : This card is good for $30.00 off of canvas prints.

The total value for this box was $ Unknown Amount. The reason for the numerous unknown amounts is due to the fact that we could not find any comparable items to compare to for price. I wish I could have given you a cost vs value comparison, but since I am unable to I am going to say that this may not be worth the $49.95 monthly fee. Also, each box advertises that you get between 8-11 trial/full size products, and this box only contained 5 items. This is not the case with previous boxes, but since there is no way to verify prices on this box we have not other choice the to call it unknown value.

Smart Art boxes are available for $49.95/month including shipping. Currently they are only able to ship to the United States.
