Late for the Sky: Geek-opoly Board Game Review

Late for the Sky: Geek-opoly Board Game Review + Giveaway

When I was young I had a reputation for not only dating geeks, but also being a geek myself. Despite the years of torment and laughs that were made at my expense I did not not mind this distinction. I took pride in the fact that the boys I dated knew how to fix my computer, that they used their imagination’s weekly at their Dungeons and Dragon’s role-playing games and that while they were not the most popular, they were genuine people. The status of geek never made a big difference to me, people are more than the labels we give them, which I discovered early in my life. I spent many hours with my fellow geeks – while they explored the depth’s of Mordor, I sat and colored while listening to the adventures. Some of my best memories are these moments.

There is one benefit of geekdom – a unique knowledge and sense of humor that many other people do not understand. Since I am married to a self admitted geek, at times it can be difficult to find gifts that are the right mix of geek and humorous. When I saw Late for the Sky’s Geek-opoly Board Game I was brought back to those moments late at night in the garage and smiled.

I was generously sent  for review Late for the Sky’s Geek-opoly Board Game.

Late for the Sky’s Geek-opoly Property Trading Game is a property trading game with the geek lifestyle as the theme.

The first thing that I noticed was that the typical properties such houses and hotels have been replaced with blocks that represent a Gigabyte (1000 megabytes) and Terabyte (1000 Gigabytes). I love this little twist, since am familiar with the blocks that hold our digital memories.

Each property is replaced with various geek themed lingo and the values include each step of financial increase and the back of each deed contains a blurb about the front of the card. It’s the traditional property trading game with geek themes included. The property contains titles as well as lingo.

The typical “Community Chest” cards are replaced with a and exclamation mark, and geek themed activities including the occasional quiz such as “Name the four pixellated ghosts in Pac-Man”.

The “Chance” cards are a Pac-Man character and include references to geek items such as the 20-sided die and many other wonderful and relevant references with each one remaining appropriate.

The money is simple and each color is a different denomination with it including 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500. The money does not have any particular reference to geekness, but this is a positive in that if you ever need more money or want to swap money from different Late for the Sky games, this makes that possible and seamless to visitors.

Each token is geek themed and includes Doc Martin looking boot, sunglasses, a hand making the peace sign, a bow tie, a laptop computer and a video game controller.

Since I have many geek friends, and my main loved one is a geek I love having a game in which he is “in on the joke”. This game covers the geek lifestyle from top to bottom – if you have a geek in your life, you need to add this to their collection!

I absolutely LOVED this game and recommend it to all property game lovers!!

When I think of a geek, I think of someone who wears large rimmed glasses and has one of those things in his front pocket that holds pens and pencils. At least that is what they looked like in my day….

I think of myself, someone who’s nerdy and into school and studies.

When I hear the word geeks I think of a group of people who spend countless hours learning and discussing the sciences and maths!
