Namaste Brownie and Coating Mixes Review and Giveaway!
Alright, I will admit it: I might be on a healthy eating quest. This previous sentence could be debated by those that love me, but I figure with small changes you can effect big change. If I adjust my diet a little then maybe I will see big results. There is no medical reason for this new-found awareness, just the looming July date that makes me rethink the previous 4 decades of choices.
Despite my desire for calm at times our house is in a state of debate and discussion. The reason for the discussion’s are not medical, financial or emotional, but are about the proper consistency of brownie mix. I was a watery mix girl and Jason was a lumpy mix boy – how we have lasted this long is mystery.
I recently had the opportunity to review a couple of Namaste Foods products. I had the opportunity to review the Gluten-Free Brownie Mix and the Gluten-Free Italian Herb Coating Mix. I am always open to trying new brownies and new coating mixes to add flavor to my foods.
The first one I made was the Gluten-Free Brownie Mix, and I was very taken aback by the thickness but was quickly reassured that it was supposed to be that thick and that is what made a good thick brownie.
While it was a challenge to stir the mix, in the end it made for a much richer thicker brownie. We topped the brownies with a homemade frosting that was in deed not gluten-free.
The second thing I used was the Gluten-Free Italian Herb Coating Mix. I decided to use the coating on chicken as we are chicken fans around here. I used eggs as my binder, but per the instructions I could have used water, buttermilk, milk or eggs. I thought that the egg would give it a really puffy type binder.
The total cooking time was right around 40 minutes and the topping was still a bit mushy on top, but I did not want to dry out the chicken. The top had a nice Italian flavor despite the mush spots and honestly a little more time may have solved that problem.
Namaste Foods is a growing manufacturer of various foods that contain no wheat, no gluten, no corn, no soy, no potatoes, no dairy, no casein, no peanuts or tree nuts. While their products are not organic, they are on the right track to healthy foods.
I would highly recommend trying these mixes if you follow the Gluten-free way or not. They are both tasty and flavorful. I plan to buy more of the Italian coating in the future to make it with tilapia and pork.
