Frontier Soups: Corn Chowder and Tortilla Soup Review and Giveaway
Being a California girl the concept of cold winter nights mean something different to me than to other people. I did spend the first 6 years of my life in the mid-west and while I have faint memories of the cold, it is mostly memories made up of being told and reading what the weather was like.
There is a famous story in my family that occurred on my final plane ride to California. I was leaving Illinois at the end of December and as such was outfitted in a snow suit (a cute little red number with an apple on the upper right corner). When I got off the plane at Lindbergh Field in San Diego, despite the snow suit I knew I was in a different world.
Since i have long left my cold days behind me, as I have been a California Girl since the first step off the 737, I do love the cold. Despite this sunny and warm environment I am in, I long for cold nights. My favorite days involve rain, a footed onesie and a good bowl of soup! Lucky for me California is in the middle of a El Nino and rain is frequent for an otherwise dry state. Since I am a planner, I tend to stock my house and make sure I have soul warming foods.

In my preparations I reached out to Frontier Soups and they were nice enough to send me to belly warming soup combo.I received two samples from Frontier Soups including Illinois Prairie Corn Chowder and South of the Border Tortilla Soup.
Illinois Prairie Corn Chowder: The first thing that I noticed was despite the plastic packaging, i could still smell the mix. This smelled so good, and when I looked at the ingredients I understood why. The Corn Chowder has Non-GMO super sweet corn, red peppers and rice. They recommend that you add diced potato and cream to give this a true chowder feeling. I have not made this yet, but plan to with some honey cornbread. This is also gluten-free!

South of the Border Tortilla Soup: This soup smelled so good from the moment I opened the box! This is a zesty mexican soup that has dehydrated black beans, peppers and Non-GMO sweet corn. It is recommenced that you add chicken, salsa and tortilla chips to give this a true tortilla soup flavor. This is also gluten-free!
We made this soup and then poured a bunch of tortilla chips and sour cream in to mild out the flavor. This was easy to make and the product tastes like it cooked for hours.
I found it amusing that Frontier Soups is located in Illinois, and despite my California girl status, I will always have my Illinois roots.

On a cold day nothing beats a hot cup of cocoa or coffee. Chile of course is a winter staple and other soups.
I like to take a warm bath and have a stew going all day when it’s cold out.
