Milton’s Gluten Free Baked Chips Review & Giveaway
When i was growing up my father loved a good Jewish deli, which were in short supply here in San Diego. The closest deli was no less than 40 minutes from our home, and honestly out of the question most days despite his cravings. Some time in my teens a new restaurant popped up that was only about 20 minutes from out house, and we began patronizing this deli.
Flash forward 20 plus years later and what started out as selling bread out of the store front’s become a household name -Milton’s/Milton’s Craft Bakers. Going into this restaurant is a treat, and as soon as you step down the stairs and enter the front area you are met with pastries and bread. The sandwiches are just as good as a Jewish deli should be, and there are pickles on the table.
When I started this blog I never imagined that I would be come familiar with gluten-free brands, and that I would be watching if companies ventured down the gluten-free path. Yesterday I was in the store doing our weekly shipping and i noticed that many companies are starting to offer gluten-free alternatives to their gluten filled counterparts. Milton’s has continues the gluten-free wave with the arrival of Milton’s Gluten Free Baked Chips that come in 6 varieties and are crispy as well as tasty!
I receive all 6 varieties of Milton’s Baked Chips including the following:
Miltons’s Gluten Free Baked Chips come in six varieties including Himalayan Salt, Green Chili Salsa, Sea Salt, Nacho Cheddar, Santa Maria BBQ and Red Chili Salsa Baked Chips (in the above photo from left to right).
When I received the box, I noticed how bright and colorful the packaging was – you would see this color in a sea of bags. Each flavor has its own color, which makes for easy identification while shopping.
Each flavor was distinct and had varying levels of spice/salt. I will start by saying that one of my favorite flavors, was one that i thought would be my least – Red Chili Salsa. The Red Chili Salsa Baked Chips were a little spicy. but not intolerable. My second favorite was the Green Chili Salsa Baked Chips and there was no doubt that this had a Green Chili scent and flavor. These were not spicy but full of flavor. The Himalayan Sea Salt Baked Chips and the Sea Salt Baked Chips were more on the plain side, and adequately salted. I would recommend that these would be really good dipped in salsa or a guacamole. The second two were a little more distinct the first being Santa Maria BBQ Baked Chips which is a pepper, garlic and sea salt combination. The Nacho Cheddar Baked Chips reminded me of a healthier version of the current nacho chips on the shelves.
Each of Milton’s Baked chips are dairy free, soy free, peanut and tree nut free, egg free and are certified kosher. In addition to the things they are without, they are also NON-GMO project verified. The chips are a blend of corn, brown rice, chickpeas, lentil as well as appropriate seasonings and are vegan friendly! As an added bonus they also contain no trans fats or cholesterol and are always baked – not fried. The best part is there is no odd after taste, which can happen with chips.
As Jason and I agree, if you had to eat gluten free or chose this diet, then these would be a wonderful replacement to the gluten filled brands that are currently available. We really enjoyed trying these, and I am happy to say that we have found a new snack chip!
