Herbs Frozen – Dorot Crushed Garlic, Chopped Basil and Crushed Ginger – A Review & Giveaway
As I have mentioned in the past, I am starting down the path of home cooking. Admittedly I am not very good, but I try hard and most of my food is edible.
The one complaint that I hear frequently and often is that there is not enough flavor. There is a clear reason for this .. I am concerned about overdoing the amount of herbs and seasoning I use. Lately while grocery shopping each week, I have noticed that there is a pre-measured and easy to use herbs without fear of over herbing our meal. These cooking herb helpers come from Dorot Gardens, and we recently received some to try out in our meals. Continue reading →

Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome – March 2017 Review
I believe that every day should have an element of pure randomness. This could be a phone call from an unexpected friend that you have not spoken to in many years, or a piece of mail that you were not expecting.
Each month when I receive the Monthly Mystery Box of Awesome by That Daily Deal.com my love of randomness is fulfilled. Each month no theme is chosen for this monthly box, but rather a selection of random gender neutral items that will undoubtedly meet a need of yours or a lucky recipient that you were unaware you had.
As I have mentioned many times, we are going through a metamorphosis in our house that involves more home cooking and less eating out.
Ever since I started this blog I have loved not only trying new things, but also using my new-found tools and skills to cook at home. The most amazing thing is that we have discovered that we love our own home cooking better than most restaurants.
The biggest problem that I have as an amateur home chef is consistency in my cuts, and thus this affects the consistency of heating. When I received an email about the Vidalia Chop Wizard I began to think that this is the way I can finally gain that consistency I am needing in my home cooking.
It has been mentioned in the past that we are a snack house. Each week when we do our grocery shopping snacks are a close second to the proteins we purchase.
Lately though we have been going through a new evolution of snacking – nuts and trail mixes. I recently noticed that when I am hungry int he middle of the afternoon fruit and nut mixes are easy and healthy.
Since we are trying to eat healthier we have a couple of requirements including healthy, natural and few preservatives and sugars as possible. Since we are heading into the busy late Spring/early Summer seasons I reached out to Gourmet Nutfor a giveaway.
With the arrival of Spring also comes the arrival of fresh fruit. One of our favorite things this time of year is a fresh fruit bowl. Once the sun starts shining, so do the selections for fruit which include honeydew, mango, oranges and strawberries. Last year I had the opportunity to review LAFAZA Vanilla Sugar and I was instantly a fan!
I am so excited about this giveaway – the Vanilla Sugar is a topping used on dessert almost every evening after dinner in our home – I am thrilled to be able to share this giveaway with everyone!
LAFAZA Pure Ground Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla – 1 oz: When I reviewed this a couple of months ago I mentioned that this was not only a pleasant smelling vanilla but also on of the most beautiful brown color I have ever seen. I had planned to use this on chocolate chip cookies and I am happy to say that my goal was accomplished. These added such a richness to my cookies, and the vanilla was slightly noticeable and added a punch to an otherwise normal cookie. This vanilla smells so good and you can tell that this is sun-cured and a slow-dried Madagascar Bourbon bean. By using this process is removes nearly all the pod moisture and leaves dried beans that are then ground into a powder. The result is a pure concentrated vanilla flavor.
Let me start by saying that the products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge courtesy of Gourmet Nuts. This post may have affiliate links but this in no way will influence the review to follow and all opinions are my own.
Gourmet Nuts: Sea Salt Review and Giveaway
I am a simple girl, and because of this it has never dawned on me that salt comes in flavors and varieties. I have only ever used the salt that you purchase for about a a dollar at the store. As I venture further into cooking, I am learning the value of different flavors and the distinctions between different salts.
I have learned that cooking is the not only the proper allocation of heat but the correct application of spices. The most simple and easiest to use seasoning is salt and pepper, and the many variations of those. The simple table salt that you purchase for a dollar is simple on taste but low on flavor and I believe the key is to pack as much flavor as possible in each used seasoning.
Not to long ago I reviewed Gourmet Nuts nuts and snack products, and I discovered that they not only make nut and snack products but they have a variety of salts available.
