About a decade ago, I developed a new hobby – candle making. I eagerly would search thrift stores for new and interesting places to pour the wax into and burn. I had a collection of different glasses and metal receptacles. I loved that I could spend a little time in the kitchen and the result was a candle that would burn far more hours than it took to create it.
The creation for candles did not last long overall, and in the grand scheme of things was fleeting. The one thing that remained was my love for candles. The difference is now my appreciation of candles. I can appreciate the artistry, time and effort that goes into creating these burning pillars of scent.
Jackpot Candles are different from the typical candles that you can purchase in stores. Each candle has a piece of jewelry embedded into the wax, as you burn the candle down, the small aluminum square reveals itself. The value of the included piece is anywhere from $15.00 to $5,000.00 and the value is determined by an online appraisal – enter your code and get a value!
BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review and Book Giveaway – May 2016 Box
As we embark in this election year it is becoming clear that the country is divided and needs some injection of peace and love. Every night on the news all that is seen are rally’s that turn into protests and protests that turn into arrest records.
The common thread is that the one thing we need the most, is the one thing that all yogi;s know, we need peace. There are a couple of ways to achieve peace but the easiest is to be what you want to put out into the world. I think many people forget that to be nice is not difficult and the simplest thing we can do.
Each month when I receive my monthly BuddhiBox I am reminded of this simple message. Each month I have the opportunity to review boxes (click here to see the previous reviews) and each month I can expect a nice introduction in the yoga/healthy living lifestyle. The message is always one of compassion, and understanding and living a pure life, as well as being the company’s motto.
This month continues the new box and is strong and sturdy box that is printed on all box sides. I loved that a green crinkle wrap replaced the green tissue paper, but still retained the green theme. This month came with 3 cardboard information cards that are in full color and on thick glossy card stock. The first card was the Yoga pose of “Balasana” that shows the pose in full color, as well as the benefits and directions about the pose. These pose cards are made especially for BuddhiBox by a company called Yogicards. There is a recipe for a “Strawberries Fruit of Spirit and Health” that is made using 6 ingredients The final information card included was a box manifest and on the other side the following quote:
Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage. – Lao Tzu
If there is one thing I can not get enough of it is candles. I love watching the light dance off the wick and watch the flame flicker in an otherwise darkened room. I only began to appreciate candles and the flame as I got older. It is a perfect opportunity to sit, relax and reflect. Back in June 2015 I had the opportunity to review Jackpot Candles (see that review here).
Since that original writing 6 months have passed and while I have gotten the “jackpot” from the candle, I am still burning and otherwise enjoying the candle.

Peaches & Petals Subscription Box – November 2015 Review and Giveaway
One of my favorite thing about monthly subscription boxes is the random curated surprise that await the recipient. I love the unique items included and the useful items. I think that after almost a year of reviewing boxes, my favorite part is seeing the theme of the contents. I appreciate when I box has a unifying them that ties it together.
Peaches and Petals is taking this concept of a unifying theme and bringing it to each monthly box. This is a subscription box that caters to ‘fun. flirty, fashionable vintage and modern lifestyles’. What does that mean to you the subscriber? It means that each month you will receive 3-5 items hand selected by the Peaches and Petals team and can range in items from creams, nail polish, makeup, scarves and bags or/and a vintage piece of jewelry. There could be other items included, depending on the box and theme for the month. The November 2015 box seems to have a unifying theme of “Infinity”.
Let me start by saying that the products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge courtesy of Moon Magic Box. This post may have affiliate links but this in no way will influence the review to follow and all opinions are my own.
Moon Magic Subscription Box – August 2015 Review and Giveaway
I will be honest and admit I know almost nothing about Chakras and stones. If I am being completely honest I will also tell you that I am not 100% sure that stones work – but I am open-minded enough to learn.
The first thing I wanted to know was what are the chakras, what area of the body it uses and it;s effect. A Chakra is an energy point or mode in the subtle body (which is your mind, intelligence and ego) not the physical body. There are 7 Chakra points and each has its own objective. The 1st Chakra is the Root Chakra which is at the base of the spine (tailbone area specifically) and it represents our foundation and the feeling of being grounded. The 2nd is the Sacral Chakra is located in the lower abdomen (about 2 inches below the navel) and represents connection and ability to accept others and new experiences. The 3rd is the Solar Plexus located in the upper abdomen in the stomach and represents the ability to be confident and in control of our own lives. The 4th is the Heart Chakra located in the center of the chest above the heart and represents our ability to love. The 5th Chakra is the Throat located in the throat and represents ones ability to communicate. The 6th Chakra is the 3rd eye which is located in the forehead between the eyes and represents the ability to not only see but also focus on the big picture. The 7th and final Chakra is the Crown located on the top of the head and is the highest chakra and represents ones ability to be fully connected spiritually.
I love scented candles, but have never been a fan of perfumes. The perfumes that I have come across are strong and when applied heavy can burn noses and make people not want to be near the offending smell. I have always seeked and looked for a perfume that can make me smell more natural and less like I am wearing perfume.
I came across Infusion Organique’s and was intrigued by the scents that they offer and thought that maybe this was the perfume option I had been looking for. They were generous to send me not only a couple of vials of their different scents, but also a roll on perfume and a soy blend candle.
I was sent 4 different vials of perfume including Buddha’s Fig, Sands of Morocco, Indochine and Acai Rain. The Buddha’s Fig includes fig, rose geranium, lemongrass oil, wood and amber scents. The purple colored Sands of Morocco includes vanilla, sandalwood, warm oak moss, lemongrass and ylang-ylang. The Indochine included kumquat, peach, water lily, jasmine, muguet, vanilla, grapefruit extract, orange and ylang-ylang. The pink colored Acai Rain is made of acai, raspberry, currant, white peach, fresh greens and orange oil.
Relaxation and I are generally opposing concepts. I have always loved fire and candles, there is something about the way that the fire dances from the wick and burns down as it melts into the wax. If there are relaxation moments in my life this is where you will find them. I find the rhythm of the fire burning almost a religious experience, and nothing makes me quieter or more relaxed.
Since candle burning allows this wonderful form of relaxation, I am always seeking out fragrant candles, and in my search I discovered Jackpot Candles. The name for Jackpot Candles really comes from the concept itself, each candle contains a piece of jewelry or “jackpot”. The jewelry varies, your choice, from earrings, rings and necklace’s and includes sizes 5, 6, 7, 8 and up to 9. Each candle has a piece of jewelry with a code on it, and if you go to the website and type in the code you will get an approximate value on the piece you received. Each enclosed piece has a value between $15.00 to $5,000.00, and are made of metal alloys and gems.
BuddhiBox Monthly Subscription Review and Giveaway – February 2015 Box
If you are anything like me you know A LOT of people who love yoga. If you do know one of these enthusiasts I would highly recommend getting them a BuddhiBox monthly subscription. This carefully curated box of items help to enhance any yoga session or any post yoga session.
I was unsure what to expect in my BuddhiBox, and I can tell you at the very least I was not disappointed. The box was a perfect 6x6x6 square of corrugated thin cardboard.
When I opened the box I was greeted by wonderfully folded green tissue paper and 3 cardboard information cards sealed with a sticker. One card had the “Wheel/Upward Bow” pose that shows the pose as well as the benefits and cautions when using that pose. There was a recipe for a “H2O Nutrition Vegetarian Taco Salad” that is made in a mason jar and super easy to make. The final information card included was a box content listing and the following quote:
love is the bridge between you and everything – Rumi
As I dug into contents of the box I was overcome with a sense that I was discovering the greatest new craze. I have included individual reviews of the items in the box and the box overall. Included in the box was the following items:
