As an actively pitching blogger, I have found that one of the most difficult things is creating real connections with the public relations, marketing and owners of the companies I work with.
There no doubt that one of the biggest struggles in blogging and working with companies is how to create a real line of communication in an online world. I have a couple of things that I started doing in the beginning and have served me well the past couple years.
A couple of years ago I had the desire to start a blog, but did not know where to begin. I started by writing a couple of posts about the daily mail that I received. Much of the items were free and sent to me via sampling programs and such.
It became clear very quickly that while I thought that was a viable topic, it was not enough to fill an entire blog. I began to brainstorm, and that is when I received the suggestion to do product reviews.
My Freaky Saturday seeing Disney’s Freaky Friday at the La Jolla Playhouse
There is nothing comparable to live theater, and musicals are no exception. I have been going to live theater shows at the La Jolla Playhouse since I was a young teenager. I have seen Rent, Shakespeare plays, one man shows and huge ensembles, all from 1st or 2nd row center seats. Now that I am older, my father’s season tickets never go to waste since Jason has the same love of theater I have.
Since we are such live theater fans, when we were asked if we wanted my father’s tickets to Freaky Friday we jumped at the chance. I grew up watching the original movie and then the mid 2000’s version.
I have always loved the story of a mother and daughter switching places, dealing with each other’s problems and finally seeing the value in the other side. I was intrigued and excited to see this story in a musical version.
Having our Cake and Eating it too – Our DIY Wedding BBQ
Jason and I have never been conventional people, and when we got married that was no different. One rainy day at the end of December of 2010 Jason called my during his break at work and asked if that approaching Thursday would be a good day to schedule our moment at the court-house.
While the call surprised me the over all conversation did not. We had made plans to get married and we had decided that we would go to the courthouse.
That Thursday came and went, and we did not tell anyone, and before we knew it we never found the right time. When we finally came clean to family and friends, almost 26 months had passed and a handful of people knew our secret – we were married!
II have always loved taking my photo with people in mascots. It started when I was young at Disneyland, and to this day when I see a mascot I have to stop and get a photo. This current love has progressed into mascots I see at the Expo’s I attend. It all started a couple of years ago, at the Gluten Free Allergen Friendly Expo and since that I make it a goal to get photos with the mascots of companies I see.
While attending the Natural Products Expo this year I took various photos with mascots as you will see.
There is no doubt that we love our cats and are often asked how Murfee and Maggee entered our lives.
The story is simple and started years earlier with an agreement. When Jason and I began dating we agreed that someday we would adopt a cat (or two) when we would purchase a home and not have roommates. Flash forward to a couple of years later and we were in the middle of making an offer on our first house. We decided that if our offer was accepted we would start looking for a cat to join our lives. We scoured the shelter site, and waited until we moved in the house, but not quite settled. Once we adopted Murfee we knew he needed a buddy, and that brought Maggee into our lives.

The Charger’s Have Left San Diego, Now How Do I Decorate?
Many readers know, I live in a Charger house and am a native San Diegan, and for me there was no other team to get behind but the San Diego Chargers.
Since the news broke that they are leaving I have done a lot of reading and had many discussions. For now the Chargers are still the Bolts, and the team colors are still yellow and blue – this could change down the line, but now it remains (I believe they just went through a uniform change a couple years ago, and the NFL rules state that changes can be made every 5 years).
Jason is a born, bred and lifelong fan and never planned on supporting another team. As he put it, he has 40+ years invested in this team, players and history and 100 mile move would not change that. As for me, I am a hometown girl.
When you have a pets, it is inevitable that you will need small bags to clean up after them. I have been on a search for a dispenser that at the least would keep the plastic bags organized until I need them.
One afternoon, as I was depleting my pre-moistened wipes, inspiration struck and I realized with a little bit of effort, I could create a dispenser for plastic bags that would be easy and cater to my love of all things color filled.
With about a hour or two you too can have a custom plastic bag dispenser.
